Buying a body

Looking to buy a 50D body

Options include

Manufacturer refurbished to new item from one of many sellers on ebay
New item from one of many sellers on ebay

Somewhere else?

Im tempted to go for a refurbd item as they come with 3 month warranty anyway and the new ones on ebay only list a 3 month warranty as well, price difference is maybe £40 between refurbd and new so new makes sense here i guess but id like 12 months warranty really..

went for this in the end: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=390241902430&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT 2 year warranty, new rather than refurbished, could have done worse i think

Cool - what areas of improvement are you expecting to make most use of over the 450D?

Am unsure whether Ill bother upgrading to XXD at some point or just hang onto the 450D for longer and go Full Frame at some point :/ Still, only had my 450D about 6 months so plenty of life left in it yet hopefully!

better button layout, extra dial, camera user settings modes, larger body so easier to wield, faster FPS, better viewfinder, all sorts really

Im hoping it might meter and focus faster/better than my 450D but i doubt ill see anything there

the XXD isnt full frame, i was looking at the 5D or 7D but cant justify the additional cost tbh

Theres a dealer in Hong Kong who sells UK duty free cameras on eBay.  They promise to pay any import fees if you get spanked - and theyre true to their word.

I dont know the Canons well, but the comparison is similar to my first Pentax *istDL2 vs my current K10D.

I can honestly say the twin control dials are one of the best things about the mid-range cameras. For this feature alone I would far rather have my 4 year old K10D than my little sisters practically brand new K-x with its shiney new CMOS sensor, live view and video capture.

Loved the 400D.

Got the 40D.

My very 1st impressions were "Its not as big as people say"

followed by

"It IS as heavy, if not heavier"

and then

"heh, these dials are a bit weird"

A little later (like 5 mins)

"Wow, how did I ever cope without these dials/controls?!"

Only issue Ive ever had with the 40D is the off switch, although I normally just dont bother using it

Is it more worrying that I read the thread title as Burying a body, or that the thread was in the photography section and I still clicked it....?

Ive kept meaning to say something similar...in that the last time I checked buying bodies, both living and dead, was illegal.

As Ive pointed out in the past, some shops sell babies bodies so apparently not as illegal as it might seem
