Canon product cycles?
on: March 17, 2008, 13:53:18 PM
My 300D is getting a bit long in the tooth, so want to start thinking about a replacement body. When do Canon usually release their new bodies? Probably looking to swith to one of the prosumer range ones.

Im heading to New York at the end of the year, so Ive got plenty of time, just wondering if the 40D is my only option or wether a 45/50D is due out before Christmas.

Canon tend to be an 18 month cycle for there lower end cameras depending on trade shows and competitive pressure, next camera I expect to be replaced would be the 5D, followed by the 400D.

I went from the 300D to the 5D, and gave my mum the 300D.

The 40D is pretty recent still. And pretty awesome.

Role on the 45DBx in two weeks time and yet another ink cartridge type

People talk about apple or other companies with revisions but printers are the scourge evil of the world and printer companies the rip off kings of this world, the amount of cash they get of companies in terms of printing must be insane.

You missed it? Actually it has been announced but little in the way of reviews yet. Its not a replacement for the 400d either, both will run alongside each other.

Think 7day shop has the body on offer, release in April?

Personally I would consider a second hand body... at the moment you can pick up a nice EOS1D Mark 2 for abour £600, although I did cough out on a mark 3!

However if used is out the question go for the 40D it is a fantastic camera and I would strongly recommend one. Just think if they are going to release a new body which inevitably they will you could get a brand new 40D  at a heavily discounted price and still have a great camera.

Got lots of high quality Canon mount glass?

if so, stick with them and get yourself a D40

If not, shop around. The Pentax K20D just came out with 14.6 MP, in camera shake reduction, weather sealing, ISOs to 6400 an enhanced dynamic range mode and live view.

Ive got a couple of EF-S lenses so cant go for a 1D (I love my 10-22mm too much ;)

Im heading to New York for 2-3 weeks for Christmas and New Years, whichll probably be shortly before a 50D is due out, so I should be able to pick up 40D body for $700. Ive already spotted it for $850.

Hopefully well see a new 17-135 from Canon this year...
