Any advice for getting night time shots? particularly the stars?
I tried going somewhere with as little light pollution as I could find, zoomed a little, slow shutter speed and low iso, but all I got was a lot of noise, fiddled round for a bit and gave up.

for stars you really need a loooonnngggg (like 30seconds+) shutter speed. Either that or a layered composition of lots of photos of the same area.

also, for those long shutterspeeds you will need a tripod.

Yup, tripod, 15-30 second shutter and open your aperture right up if you can. You really do need to get away from any town or city to get good star shots.

youll also be surprised at how short an exposure will result in star trails. wide angle will help to minimise this. a nice fast prime lens is the order of the day
