Germany 4 - 2 Costa Coffee
:D :D :D :D :D
Aw crap. Missed it. Hard to choose between those teams. I always think its cool when the host team does well, but who doesnt want to root for little Costa Rica? At least they got a couple balls in.
Ill be watching tommorrows England-Paraguay match in Hi-Def. 8)
Go Paraguay!!
/runs

I dont always agree with you, but youre spot-on there! ;) :D
I just like the South Americans same reason everybody else does: the schmancy footwork. England reminds me a bit of the Pittsburgh Steelers in American Football. Solid players, old school, but not as fun to watch on the toob.
The American team should be fun to watch as well, I predict theyll come in somewhere in the top five. A few of the American players have that glorious wit about their feet that reminds me a bit of the Brazilians.
/me has no car flags and will not be painting face.

Hmm. Me thinks the US team will be a major force to be reckoned with in just a few years time.
Think about it - they have the money, the resources and 65 billion mexispanics coming into the country every day. Theres talent to be exploited there and the US have the will, the money, the resources to do it.
The USA is a major sporting nation and very well-funded; unlike fat-arsed, lazy Britain.
In time, theyll be tops for certain. Perhaps even smash Englands paltry single Cup Winners Star...

:slap:
theyll have another world series which only they will play in :P
Brummie, Ive casually watched European football for years, and used to have quite the American football addiction. I doubt you know jack sh*t about the style of the Steelers.
Major league football in the US may be a fifth tier sport after hockey, but cities like L.A. and Chicago have a football/soccer culture as rabid as any city in the world.
Probably something like:
1. Brazil (always the fave)
2. Argentina (unless they have yet another emotional breakdown)
3. UK
4. Germany (Home field play give a slight advantage)
5. US
Hopefully it wont be predictable and somebody like Angola makes it to the playoffs. As if, but its always fun to root for the total long shot.

By puttin UK shows some knowledge there Max  :slap:
Whatever, so I made a quick typo.
How those car flags holding up for ya brummie?
The problem with that prediction max is that the US have to get out of their group. Their group being very difficult indeed, Italy and the Czech Republic are definitely favourites to go through from that group.
typo? youve insulted the english welsh NI and scottish all in one go.
Flags? bought my first two today as it goes. 97 new pence from tesco.
I cut the window bit off and now the kiddies sit infront of the telly waving their flags. gets them involved so they dont want the other channel on :D :P
I think the Italians can be beat, but the Czechs are a wild card. They any good these days?
For that matter, how are the Dutch these days? Any signs of 70s glory coming back? Theyll likely not make it past the Argentines, unless the South Americans have some type of operatic breakdown.

Beats taking the time to insult them individually. 8)
I dont think the argies will do well, especially as there is a yellow card for diving. theyll all be on bans before the group stages finish.
EDIT: so should rule out Brazil Italy , Spain Portugal aswell. maybe room in the top 5 afterall max.
Shame they only measure the top 4
I saw the game, germany looked very good.
I do think Sweden will be among the top 5 :D

My thoughts exactly! Theyre like watching a latin soap opera. I love it when they slide to their knees after a carding and lament this to the Virgin Mary. Too much fun to watch. Theyre still good players, but their own worst enemy.

Doubt it, but they always put up a good fight and make us proud. The match against Paraguay on the 15th should be good fun.
Im afraid [blink]
England[/blink] will make blood sausage of us.
Did anyone see the opening ceremony? They had the teams walk around the stadium that won the World Cup. They had England 66 players. One play that was conspicuous by his absence was Diego Maradona. His troubles on and off the field should not mean that he wasnt allowed to be with the rest of the players from the team that won the world cup, if thats the reason why he wasnt there. Watching the Argentina game now, they keep showing Maradona in the crowd.
If the World Cup Finishing Positions reflect the FIFA rankings, the Yanks in the top 5 is not going to be any great surprise.
Should be expecting a Chezch-Brazil final too, although theyll likely meet before then I think with the seedings and such.
For what its worth, good result today, if wed have been offered any kind of win against the third best team in South America behind Brazil and Argentina (who they beat in qualifying) wed have taken it.

ok youve been pulled on your error mistaking england with the UK
but also isnt the world cup a knockout tornament - how do you get to be in 5th place????
you have quarter finals, semi finals and the final - cant see where a 5th place could come from?
Plus although I support england I think youve slightly underestimated Germany and slightly overestimated Argentina. Youve clearly overestimated the US at any rate but that pretty much goes without saying.
