heard about some of these proposals today.
what do you think?
Mine is nearly twice that age and runs better than some P.O.S newer cars (or did at least), they can F.O. or Ill use even more abbreviations.
Bollocks.
edit: with reference to the OP, not Niges post.
They are going to propose a £10 license for smokers, this goverment is stupid, its another stealth tax.

Thats a stupid idea and I know about stupid ideas! itd be an administration and enforcing nightmare.
To ban 10+ year old cars from city centers would be a stupid move too, I have to drive through the city center to get to and from work, the only other way is to go the LONG way round or the REALLY LONG way round. Itd make everyone who had older cars use more and more fuel and would just add to the problem.
I actually leave work at 6, so I miss the traffic, use less petrol and get home quicker and dont add to the congestion on the roads and I go into work as early as possible for the same reasons. Public transport isnt there. If I used my car to park at a out of town metro station Id have to get off the metro and walk for at least 30 mins and thats after a 20 min metro journey and the 15 min drive to the metro station. So my journey to work could be up to an hour where as today, as there was no school traffic I did it in about 30 min.

Indeed.
I average 38mpg combined with 12 year old 1.6 k series rover engine.
plus, doesent making a car cause more damage to the plenet than most cars can in 25 years ? (or something like that)
there idea qwould just push people to buying newer cars... tho maybe thats there plan, boost to the economy and all that!
have fun enforcing that one. So many great ideas they have and yet in reality they cant even stop chavs meeting on car parks all night. Me and my trusty Rover are hardly concerned....
The current crop of SUVs and large cars are bound to trounce older vehicles in amount of the new tax cash cow co2 thats produced
This is crazy idea my car is about 9 year old now but its only got 30k on the clock and runs just fine. Wouldnt this exclude all the london cabs from the city center as well ?

That wouldnt make any money it would barely cover the admin costs. Im guessing the idea is they could then use the database to exclude people from certain treatments on the NHS in the future.

Now you cant smoke in public anyway how the hell do they expect to enforce it? Lets face it - buying dodgy fags has never been difficult has it?

ok so whos for a nictotine patch! :panic:
They intend to issue shops with forms, when a customer asks for Fags, the have to fill the form in.
I think they should do that for drink.
all just proposals, but think how much the Government would make, all smokers x10 per year, id like the interest on that.
yes but it wouldnt cover the extra manpower needed to do it, its a f**kin stupid idea
Hmm, just thinking what my old boss would say, hes got a few cars, but his fav is the DB5, and he drives it everywhere, all the time. Including in winter, im sure hed be really chuffed if he couldnt drive it to work in a morning!
I think is a case of the gov paying various think tanks to come up with some REALLY stupid ideas.
Then when they introduce road charging or other extra taxes people will think they are less extreme compared to some of the other loony ideas out there.
