Title: bmw+big bada boom = :( alan
Post by: knighty on December 04, 2006, 12:55:29 PM
driving home from london last night and the engine sudernly cut out.... temp was almost in the red, but there had been no warning lights :(

looks like the oil cooler that lives under the radiator had worked loose at one end and rubbed on the fan belt/end of the crank shaft, which worked a hole into it, so all my oil poured out all over the place, it overheated then went bang :(

havnt had time to look at it yet, but theres no compresion there at all :(

/me thinkis its time for a new engine

but on a side note... I freewheeled a couple of miles to get to the next slip road... ended up on the sliproad for junction 48 on the M1....... the EXACT same spot where I ended up after the sump plug fell out of my volvo gearbox and it went bang about 3 years back.... PLUS its the same spot where I had to rescure my brother a couple of weeks back after his fule guage stuck and he ran out of fuel !

/me thinks M1 junction 48 = evil

You just need to stay in safe distance of juntion 48 in the future and learn other routes (http://img116.exs.cx/img116/6469/g5cgrin.gif)

Methinks Alan actually cant tell the difference between one junction of a yorkshire motorway and the next; they all look the same to him...;)

unlucky mate, sounds nasty.

have you had a look at the damage? is it seized?

whip the head off and have a look.

dont have to time look at it just yet, probably wont untill well after new year :(

it spins freely... a little too freely.. and theres a nasty nock on every rev :(

for the time and hastle etc... I might as well get a second hand engine for 150 quid :) (if im lucky)

for a while I was tempted to turn it into an electric car... I normally do naff all miles anyway... priced some stuff up earlier... but I just dont have the time anymore :(
