Hello All,
I bought my new car yesterday but i will not get it until next tues or weds. Now i need to change the insurane over to my new car when i get it but iv got a couple of questions that need answering. I do not need to declre my old car off the road if i sell it do it? As as friend of mine might buy it in a couple of days time. Another one is that i have heard of this new law that is out or is coming out soon where if you have Tax on your car but if you do not have insurance you automatically get a £100 fine because of having no insurance. When i change my insurance details so my old car is not insured and my new one is, will i be faced with this fine because the DVLA will see that my old car is still taxed but not insured?
Thanks - Liam
Aint heard anything about that mate, as long as the car aint being driven or stored on the road without insurance all should be fine.
Yeah hopefully i should have the car sold fairly soon, problem is though if it doesnt sell then i have not got anywhere else to store it!
Liam
If its taxed, no worries. If its not, get it SORNd
Do NOT forget to do a change of ownership when you sell it.

I did that once. Big fine. Never again.

Yep, you only need to inform them its off road if untaxed. Post the change of ownership docs yourself, or drop them into the office. Not doing so might mean some b*stard drives around in your old car for a time, does loads of minor offences like parking tickets and then sells it on. You then get all the flack because officially youre still the owner.
