Forgot to mention this earlier actually.
Hit my new top top speed on the flat.
32mph
Dressed in soaked through jeans, in a downpour with a heavy winter coat on and undone. Slight tailwind.
Nailed it down the road because of the rain, then noticed that the car by the right of me wasnt going past me, it was instead keeping pace with me... looked down, saw 28+mph. Decided to change from 12th to 18th gear and just nailed my legs up and down using the spds, and ankling at the bottom of the stroke to see how fast I could get. Under/overtook (I was in the left hand bus lane.. they were in the right car lane) them, came up by a people carrier, to see two kids waving at me :D I wave back (still nailing my legs around and knackered too) which got the parents pointing at me, or more to it the wife exclaiming stuff to her husband whilst pointing at me by their front passenger window. :D
Had to slam on the anchors as I was going to have to cut a red light a bit close otherwise, and the driver sped up beat the red light and left me in his dust. Couldnt get back above 20mph for the rest of the ride home, my legs were just dead, felt like the pedals were spinning my legs around not the otherway around after that effort.
Well proud of my effort, and I broke the 30mph barrier! WOOT! :D
/emails the cops...
Not really tho but watch out the speed limit still counts on a bike ;)

I know. But as the cars were going the same speed im pretty damn sure theyd be more concerned about that, than me.
thats what you get for calibrating the speedo to 28" wheels.
:drama:
:D

lol no no..
Pi r and all that. tiz good enough for me :D lol.
All I know is that the bike with a pooter on it has one gear and when I spin it to the point of bouncing off the saddle, it reaches 27mph and is not fun at all. Be careful or at least practice braking from those speeds. Luckily youre a clyde, so flipping over the bars is a very unlikely scenario. Member that the front brake is a heckuva lot stronger during panic stops as thats where the weight goes. Dont be scared to use it. Dont want you falling down any more. :P

lol I didnt say I wasnt bouncing around.
As for brakes, it was sopping wet. So ended up braking in advance and appreciated it as I ended up gripping both brakes in the last second to completely stop and not slide over the line.
Discs ftw!
I had an old Dawes Zed (bagosh*te) and with a speedo on, hit 44mph :D
Nearly ploughed straight through a road name sign.
Damn Cantis
The gearing on that bike was insane. Not sure about the ratio on the back, but it had 4 rings on the front and 6 on the back.
I really should calibrate my speedo properly. I would be interested to know how quick Im going when I really push. All I know its a speed that you dont want to be stopping quickly at.
funny you should mention that. Appears my slamming on the anchors last night from such a speed has damaged my brakes.
Pulled the front brake today on the commute in and the metal barrel adjuster went "ping!!" and sprung out of the resin cage (left me with only a rear brake to stop at a junction!). Appears to have torn all the threads in there so is held in purely as a "makeshift" measure at the moment, doesnt perform greatly either, have to pull the lever right to the handlebar just to get it to make a difference.
Back brake isnt behaving properly either, appears it too has stripped some threads, and doesnt have as much stopping power as it once did.
Think its time I bought some metal levers for my bike.
Put some of these on my girly bike, and theyre fabulous:

They have switchable pull for either canti/caliper or linear pull brakes, so you can use either style if youre scavenging.
Nice and big for man hands. :D
Dont they still have a resin casing where the barrel adjuster goes into the lever? as thats where my problem is. the cable has pulled the entire adjuster through the resin threads and basically ruined them.
Not a scrap of plastic on these. 100% cast or machined aluminum. Cheap over here at $15, but the improvement over resin or old cheap steel Raleigh kit is astounding. I can lock either end with two fingers--and thats with unmachined rim sidewalls, and old crappy cable. I couldnt live w/o solid levers on a bike, makes me nervous.

Coolio Hoolio. :)
Shall shove them on my "to buy" list :)
Cant go wrong with Deore levers.
Dirt Cheap!
