sure it isnt just a loose wire on the oil sender or similar?  I assume you have checked the water and under the car for oil.

its either the oil pickup or the relief valve, it does get pressure but idles for 6-7seconds before it builds any.. its just not good :(

How many miles are on it, do you know the *Real* condition and history (Not someone telling you they drove it at under 50 and it was owned by 70 year olds) (How badly thrashed) and what sort of oil do you use? What sort of compression is it showing on all the cylinders

If it was the pickup screen I would expect it to be impeded at revs as the pump got starved of oil.

There are too many possible causes of oil pressure to even begin to diagnose lol - air in the system, worn pump, excessive wear on bearings - excessive wear anywhere in the oil path really top to bottom, cracks in the oilways, blah de blah de blah.

If the releif valve was faulty, id also expect it to be dumping pressure off at other revs, as theyre designed to open at high pressures and can sometimes get stuck - however might not be the case

First thing I would look at would be the sender. 9/10 times its that. Then you can worry about taking a look at the pickup screen and the pump

get a mate to start it up from could while your under the bonnett with the oil filler cap off and looking in

if you see loads of oil splasshing around pretty quick (while the light is still on) then it shouldent be too bigga deal :)

have done the above knighty, i was rather dissapointed, you can see the cams and its wet but wont flick any out untill you rev it.

the pressure gauge is reading fine once its been running for the 6 or 7 seconds.

BX its 108k miles and seems solid with no smoke or rattles, the faults i mentioned are common on these engines as the O ring fails and the oil runs back from the pump when left. the relief valves are also know for problems.

EDIT: the sump is peeing oil everywhere so i need to change the gasket so may as well change the other bits while i have it off
