Title: Build finished, need to start running it in
Post by: Mark on June 26, 2009, 00:01:04 AM
After a huge amount of time I seem to have finished the build of the second MR2 engine.

A few final shots of the last few days of work

I started off by removing all the crap that was wired in when I got it - radio remote start, turbo timer, sleepy eye kit - what a load of unnecessary wiring:

Zoomed out, you can see the amount of extra wiring added, and the clump of useless crap under the steering wheel. And yes, that IS cat 5e cable.

The inside mostly finished, apart from the foglight switch

The crappy light thats necessary to pass MOT

Under the bonnet, some extreme heat shielding

Couple more of the finished engine bay

Im hiring a track for a day soon to get a decent map on it to run it in, getting an MOT, and then going to map it properly and cane the life out of it.

wow youve put a hell of a lot of work into it.... it really shows tho... cracking job.... its really disapointing when you see photos on the net of people doing work to there car and making a mess of it

is the knob just behind the steering wheel your boost controll knob you talked about before ? (seams like years ago)

I dunno if youd get away with it, but my Soarer has one of the reverse lights converted to a fog.
Looks better than the dogs testicle :-D

My MR2 and many others have done similar to this afaik, I certainly have no dodgy bolt on light at the back (mine was done for me as part of the purchase price)

Great build Mark, well impressed, you going to get/got some nice alloys?

For some STUPID reason you cant pass the MOT here with that arrangement and you have to have the extra light.

Am going to recondition the alloys I have, and stick 245 wide tyres on the back.

I also have some unplanned bodywork to do - the front bumper was cracked and chipped by flying debris one windy night !

I still would love an RX7 Twin Turbo, but wouldnt love the servicing costs.
