Just been looking at quotes on Confused com on a Ford Ka, for my 21year old nephew, for when he passes his test (hopefully) in a few weeks and the best I can get is Ã,£968 TPFF and Ã,£1200 full comp this is on a group 2 car, valued at 3k
Does this sound about right to you guys? if not could you recommend anybody thats good for young drivers?
Cheers! :)
My sister... 20yr old driving a Ford Ka.
Ã,£1800ish Full Comp with Kwikfit, they were the best deal we could find on confused.com and elephant.co.uk at the time, and their policy covered a lot that other companies didnt.
try adrian flux.
yeah that sounds about right :(
she would be much better off if her car was in her parents name and she was on as a second driver ;) ;)

Better legislate to get em off the road then! ;) :P

My brother got Ã,£400 Without any NCB from Tescos and then crashed his car. Hes over 50 BTW :( Insuring his new one cost him twice that amount :o
Older drivers tend to be safer bets but dont count on it
I got insurance under my parents, Its a rip off insurance. I know I wont have any no claims but for an Astra mk2 1.4L Ã,£250 Fully comp and Brake Down cover its good. :)

Insurance is a rip-off due to chav idiots, tbvfh...
^^^
more all the BS incurance claims i think :(
That cant be right.
Im 21 with no NCB and my premium is circa 700 notes on a 94 1.2 Clio fully comprehensive. Im pretty sure thats at least group 3. What excess is that with?
Alan, the two go hand in hand I fear...
I think a 1st driver shouldnt have a car worth more than Ã,£500 tbh.
It teaches them how to drive if they have some pile of crap that can be scrapped after a year.
Driving is a life long task for most, and learning how to drive as early as possible and I think they can do that better in a cheap car.
If the car costs Ã,£2000 or above, then they are inclind to take care of it, which I think is a good car, but a car that costs not a lot can teach people about mechanicals and if somthing goes wrong, which mostlikly will, how to fix it at the road side.
My insurance is Ã,£950. 23 No NCB and 1.5 years held license. on a group 10 1.3L hot hatch.
my first car cost Ã,£75 to buy and Ã,£700+ to insure, that was 2 years ago
It pains me to say it, but try Tesco insurance.
For me, this year Vauxhalls own insurance company was the cheapest.
The short list for me was:
Virgin
Direct line
Vauxhall
And Vauxhall were the cheapest by about Ã,£80
I also think that Mr_Roll has lost the plot. It matters not what car a 1st timer should have. My 1st car was a Ka, and I never so much as clipped a kerb.
Some people are naturally bad drivers. If I drove a sub Ã,£500 car, I wouldnt care less about it.
lol@ 1.3 "hot hatch" comment though. Isnt it more tepid?
Think I will have to look into getting him on as a second driver,
but I thought the same as Binary Shadow about it making no difference anymore?
as they went off the youngest and least experienced driver on the policy.
But doing that will also slow him getting no claims :?
I got a quote on the car as well from confused Ã,£192.78 hmm expected it to be less on a cheap group 2 car, only 60quid less than my 2L Focus
Confused doesnt find all the cheapest ones.
Still pays to shop around, or get a direct quote with the cheapest companys on the list.
Just got a quote from Tescos Ã,£1,003.80 :(
Edit: That was full comp Ã,£961.80 TPFF :)

Not really as shell then not get any NCB. Many insurance companies do not give NCBs to "named drivers" or accept norwich unions NCB for named drivers.
She had the money to pay it all at once, it covers her for european cover, breakdown, legal fees, everything.
She gets discount at kwik fit cause of it, and meh.. suits her fine :)

Really it is down to a combination of factors that determines the magic quote numbers.
Where you live, is it kept in a gargage, alarm, imobiliser, modifications, value of the car, how long you have had your license, NCB, Pass Plus IAM Rospa etc, Previous Accidents, Points.....
The list goes on.
Im driving a 96 Megane 1.6 E RT. It is a group 4 car (iirc), worth about Ã,£1000 now, it is kept on a drive at night, has an imobiliser. No modifications.
I have 1 Years NCB, Pass Plus had my license 4 years now. For TPFT 10,000 miles has cost me a shade over Ã,£400 with Norwich Union.
Last year I paid a shade under Ã,£900 with NCB for Endlseigh, this year they wanted about Ã,£600.
Its strange how it works. Think Ive been lucky a bit.
You wont give a damn about a cheap old car, but it wont make that much difference to your driving. Id wager that anyone with a more powerful car will be the first to crash thinking they are gods goft as a young driver.
I have a sh*te, slow car and I know its limitations, so I drive more considerately and less like chav in a riced nova.
Bob that sounds extremely lucky! Id kill to be driving a mid-range car like that now with such low insurance.
A friend of mines uncle/cousin (i allways forget) sells cars. I wasnt looking for that car in particular. I just fell in love with it and thought it was a bargain. Ã,£1500 for a 9 year old 1.6 with 45K on the clock. Annualy serviced. I was looking at old clios/fiestas at the time.
It not exactly fast, 90BHP if that, I dont enjoy driving fast that often tbh, but its lovelly to drive. its a fantastic run about doing about 35MPG and its a lovelly place to be.
I think the low insurance price is mainly down to the number of miles I do, TPFT, and how little I drive it atm. I still have no idea where Ã,£400 came from this year though. :?
Im sure you were in it when we went bowling?
Think we might have a winner Ã,£776.72 TPFF with pass plus from Quinn direct! :D
Mr_Roll posted the name of his insurance company in his thread in waffle, but didnt post it here glad I noticed it!
Ã,£776 aint bad at all :)
I used to have my volvo regestered in my fathers name... used to cost me about Ã,£900.... they wanted Ã,£2500 if it was in my name ! :o
Indeed, that is a good find. :)
Quote from: mr_rollI think a 1st driver shouldnt have a car worth more than Ã,£500 tbh.
I used to think that way but the more I see people crashing and whats happening to the cars I started with I wouldnt wish a <4 NCAP star rated car on anyone these days. A safe car doesnt come in at that sort of money and if it was my kids Id have them in a decent car and just fully comp it so when they inevitably shunt the car theyre ok. Screw the responsibility aspect - they can learn that. Not having the brake pedal pass through your shin or your chest collapsed by the stearing wheel is possibly more useful ;)
Thank god I turned 25 yesterday. Cheap car insurance at last! Time to get a new car methinks :)
LOL, I was suprised to find my car is 4 Star NCAP aproved. I guess renault have been at the safety game for longer than I was aware. :)
Yes I know its not in the Ã,£500 range but its close enough. Shows its not that far off.
are you sure youre looking at the right year car on the NCAP tests? 4 star for an older Ã,£500 car is pretty rare...
A pre 1996 Renault clio is between 1 and 2 stars for example:
http://www.euroncap.com/content/safety_ratings/details.php?id1=1&id2=10
Renaults are pretty safe tho so nice find if it is a later one at that price :)
Another killer for insurance these days is all the fookwits claiming compensation for every tiny little prang. Pisses me off something chronic.
Privilege are very reasonable to young drivers, well were cheap for both me and my sister at 17.
Jaimz
On my own on a 205 1.1 TPFF im paying Ã,£860 from Frizzel but 2 years ncb comes through in June so looking for a higher specd car and will be paying around Ã,£700 Fully Comp. Im tempted to wait till my 21st birthday to get the new one on the road as it will drop my insurance by a few hundred...
Lol.
Im driving a 1.8 16v Mk3 Astra. Ive got 6 points, and held a full car licence for just under 2 years. I have 2 years no claims and pay Ã,£700 fully comp.
Im 23.
When my insurance drops more, a 200sx is on the cards.
im reading this and choking. Im paying ~300 Full Comp on the Honda. WHen i was 21 i was paying Ã,£600 for the 1.8 Mk2 astra with a top-up of Ã,£200 for the GTE limiting the miles to no more than 3.5k a year.
