Just got my renewal through today, and they wanted £515 to insure me TPT again. So thinking the typical "F**k that" I had a swizz round various places for better quotes. Managed to get one from a decent insurer for £315 Fully Comp (as opposed to £515 TPT, and about the same as I paid last year.) for exactly the same excesses etc Im on now, so rang up Admiral to say I wouldnt be renewing.
Took the guy a couple of seconds to process what I had said, and he started on the sales pitch. I pointed out its my money and he stopped trying to push the renewal, and took a look at the pricing. Ended up he set the thing up for £286 Fully Comp instead! Thats less than I was paying last year, and better cover (I went TPT last year as the car is a 9 year old veccy). Where do they get their prices from?! As soon as he realised I wasnt going to renew he actually started looking, Im impressed that they actually looked, used to be that they said its a renewal, and you paid what it said or moved insurer!
They never like loosing customers, thats all its down to. If i am right they are allowed to negotiate with you on the phone a price that suits you when renewal time is due, any other time they wont listen to you. I remember hearing from another company before that the online quoting system on a lot of insurance companies is a bag of crap & gives out wrong estimates most of the time. The news said the same thing about my insurer Quinn Direct a while ago that there online quote system gives out under-priced quotes that are unnacceptable but in this case im not complaining lol, Always good to try and ring them when your renewal is due!

As Liam said its all about "not losing the customer".
Every year my renewal comes up, its for more than the previous year, and ever year i cancel the policy, then cancel the direct debit, then use gocompare.com then call the company back 1 week before the expiration of the policy and generally they have price matched or very near every year.
If by the last call they fail to price match i just switch to the cheapest on gocompare. Ive been with Esure for about 2 years now, excellent company, and after a car hit me at the supermarket it took me 5 minutes to sort it all out, cant really ask for better service.
Direct Line. Never needed to negotiate. Always the cheapest.
Not for me, consistently Adrian Flux.

They definately are the cheapest around compared to other companies, Churchill are the same as well & they are only around £2 cheaper than Direct line when my renewal is due, Has anyone noticed as well that the Direct Line & Churchill quote page online are very simular?

As is Tesco and Virgin.
Would be worth trying Virgin car insurance as you dont pay interest if you pay monthly.

Ditto, although my policy through them has always ended up with NIG.

like my building & contents.. £450 & they "tesco" decided to auto renew, even though I said im not renewing. Got some compensation for that & then took out an identical policy with them for £150!
I think they get them from a big hat.
I got a quote for £1200 TPFT on a 4.0L TVR Cerbera worth £12000 on ebay I saw the other week. I was quite impressed!
