The C2 is gonna be costing me a packet in the next few months so Im jumping ship and selling it nowish. Reckon Ill get about £3000, £3500 tops and I dont want to spend any more than that on what I replace it with.
Ideally want to go Japanese for reliability, insurance needs to be reasonable as does economy (maybe 25mpg+). Im open to suggestions...
Jaimz
If you want something little and fun, Suzuki Swift. If you want Cheapish and newish, Kia Picanto.
can i ask why its gonna cost a packet?
Quote from: Binary Shadowcan i ask why its gonna cost a packet?
Because its a Citroen?

lol i was thinking that but wanted to be sure ;)
someything like a Honda Civic 1.6 maybe.
Also get some nice 01-03 1.8 MG ZSs for around 3k.
(i) Nissan 200 SX - will be one of the earlier ones - maybe s14a
(ii) MR2 Turbo - get a really good rev 2 for that or a slightly less than perfect rev 3
(iii) Nissan 180 SX - clinker of a one
Quite tempted by a 200sx or a MR2, though would go for a naturally aspirated one for insurance/economy...
Jaimz
200sx will cost a packet to maintain and to run. You woul better keeping your c2. Have you considered getting a c2 vts hdi? I am very tempted due mileag i do.
In the 3000-4000 category...
VW Golf Mk4
Toyota MR2
Audi A3 or A4
Mazda MX-5
Subaru Impreza
BMW 3 or 5 series
I say Civic 3dr.
MR2
MX5
MX3
MGF
FTO

mr_roll did you look at everything jaimz wanted, then completely threw them outta the window and got the most incompatible car?
Quote from: Eddmr_roll did you look at everything jaimz wanted, then completely threw them outta the window and got the most incompatible car?
You know me to well
But I actually go with the Ibiza 1.9TDi, good speed and good economy and also made by VW a little :)
i quite fancy that e class myself, id really like a 54 C220 Avantgarde but they are still too expensive
TBH if youre going n/a jap, get a frikkin twincam already :)
AE86 corolla, should be just in budget for a real klinker.
Is clinker really tidy or really scruffy?!
AE86 I imagine being hard to find a good one but would love one.
Jaimz 8)
didnt you have an AE86 mark?
i wouldnt mind 1 of them

so good he had to say it 3 times eh ;) lol
Have sliced the list down again as Ive decided Ill leave the coupés for now so got a choice of 3:
Toyota Yaris T-Sport
Seat Ibiza 1.6 Sport / 1.9 TDi Sport
Ford Focus 2.0 Zetec
Jaimz
apparently the t sport is meant to be a great drive, matt5cott had 1 as a courtesy car iirc, was singing its praises
snellgrove has one too last time i heard from him, may drop him a line see if he recommends it.
Jaimz:rock:
dont let him drive behind you though, he might leave a lasting impression ;)
i quite like the yaris T sport.. not driven one tho but seems a good solid car and fun i guess
Quote from: soopahflydont let him drive behind you though, he might leave a lasting impression ;)
no thats binary shadow heh :P
Jaimz
not sure what you mean there..
Snellgrove re-arranged the back end of my car just to make sure people have the right story.
Not that it matters now, water under the bridge and i dont hold anything against him for it, just a shame really.
ooooooh i remember now, in my head you drove into him. my bad.
i retract my previous statement

Could you insure one of the older cupra turbos?
Jabbasport cupra ftw
You should get a coupe while you still can - once you got kids and gotta do shopping and stuff youll not be able to.
True but currently cant afford the running costs of the coupes I want.
Jaimz
you seem to be looking towards decent handling cars, no interest in the ZS?
no you said "decent" cars

You dont fancy an MX-5? You could get a very good example for that money, they are cheap as chips.
Might be a bit cramped though, its cramped for me. Last time the local mechanic sat in it he nearly crippled his back getting out.

As much as I do love ya little car just how much have you spent on it now?
Only about £600 excluding the alloys.
I only paid £950 or something for it remember, and I gave it a full 60k service.

OMG! you spent
60k on a service ?

Courtesy car? meh close enough  I do stll go round in it a lot. Its hardly surprising that its not going to set the world on fire with pace, but its a really nice car, I was in my car once, and she booted it just to see if she could roll with the mister 2, the answer was a solid no after about 2 seconds and a spec in my mirror
Definitely worth taking one out to see whats what :) only gripes are that at 70+ it can become a little noisier due to the gearing, and early revs (and alas the better looking ones, circa 02 I think) dont have a bootlight, wtf!!?
Aye Im leaning towards the Yaris at the mo, gonna go try one out on Saturday I think and see what theyre like - have driven a 1.0 model and remember it being alright so the T-Sport should be pretty good fun.
If Im not struck by it for some reason methinks I shall get a Focus.
Jaimz
T-sport = winner. I love them. I like the handling and the pickup and the reliability. The only thing I dont like is the smaller sized engine Yariss and the automatic Yariss
Taking one out for a spin at a local dealer this afternoon :)
Jaimz
or did you just want to make him look like an old man? :D
Took an 04 plate grey one out for a spin just around town after work, and I was quite impressed. Cabin space and quality is a bit down on the C2 but the drive makes up for that. Pretty sure Im gonna go for one, just need to sell the Citroen now :/
Jaimz
Quality less than a citroen?? is that possible?
LOL was thinking the same thing, it shouldnt ever break down tho
*cabin space is down, material quality is not as good (v. plasticky) but feels more solid is what i meant.
Jaimz
Although the t-sport interior isnt dripping with cowhide for example, I did find it a pleasant enough place to be.
The previous base model 1.0 I have borrowed when ive had my service are somewhat spartan, the new new ones are much better inside, very nice (again boggo 1.0)
have a frank butchers at a panda 100hp. theyre a hoot to drive!
Quote from: soopahflyhave a frank butchers at a panda 100hp. theyre a hoot to drive!
0-60 in 9.2 seconds.............................then its back to the dealer for the cylinder head to be re-done.
Well the C2 is sold and is going next week, and Im now looking around currently with £3500 max, not sure a decent Yaris T-Sport quite slips into that price range but still gonna try as thats currently my first choice.
Jaimz
man get an ae86
There are loads for sale this side of the pond for that money
edit I think I might start looking for one as a daily driver
