Title: Changing Car, Need Suggestions
Post by: Jaimz on August 06, 2007, 21:05:50 PM
The C2 is gonna be costing me a packet in the next few months so Im jumping ship and selling it nowish. Reckon Ill get about £3000, £3500 tops and I dont want to spend any more than that on what I replace it with.

Ideally want to go Japanese for reliability, insurance needs to be reasonable as does economy (maybe 25mpg+). Im open to suggestions...

(i) Nissan 200 SX - will be one of the earlier ones - maybe s14a

(ii) MR2 Turbo - get a really good rev 2 for that or a slightly less than perfect rev 3

(iii) Nissan 180 SX - clinker of a one

Quite tempted by a 200sx or a MR2, though would go for a naturally aspirated one for insurance/economy...

Is clinker really tidy or really scruffy?!

AE86 I imagine being hard to find a good one but would love one.

not sure what you mean there..

Snellgrove re-arranged the back end of my car just to make sure people have the right story.

Not that it matters now, water under the bridge and i dont hold anything against him for it, just a shame really.

You dont fancy an MX-5? You could get a very good example for that money, they are cheap as chips.

Might be a bit cramped though, its cramped for me. Last time the local mechanic sat in it he nearly crippled his back getting out.

Only about £600 excluding the alloys.

I only paid £950 or something for it remember, and I gave it a full 60k service.

Courtesy car? meh close enough   I do stll go round in it a lot. Its hardly surprising that its not going to set the world on fire with pace, but its a really nice car, I was in my car once, and she booted it just to see if she could roll with the mister 2, the answer was a solid no after about 2 seconds and a spec in my mirror

Definitely worth taking one out to see whats what :)  only gripes are that at 70+ it can become a little noisier due to the gearing, and early revs (and alas the better looking ones, circa 02 I think) dont have a bootlight, wtf!!?

Aye Im leaning towards the Yaris at the mo, gonna go try one out on Saturday I think and see what theyre like - have driven a 1.0 model and remember it being alright so the T-Sport should be pretty good fun.

If Im not struck by it for some reason methinks I shall get a Focus.

T-sport = winner.  I love them.  I like the handling and the pickup and the reliability.  The only thing I dont like is the smaller sized engine Yariss and the automatic Yariss

Took an 04 plate grey one out for a spin just around town after work, and I was quite impressed. Cabin space and quality is a bit down on the C2 but the drive makes up for that. Pretty sure Im gonna go for one, just need to sell the Citroen now :/

*cabin space is down, material quality is not as good (v. plasticky) but feels more solid is what i meant.

Although the t-sport interior isnt dripping with cowhide for example, I did find it a pleasant enough place to be.

The previous base model 1.0 I have borrowed when ive had my service are somewhat spartan, the new new ones are much better inside, very nice (again boggo 1.0)

Well the C2 is sold and is going next week, and Im now looking around currently with £3500 max, not sure a decent Yaris T-Sport quite slips into that price range but still gonna try as thats currently my first choice.
