Disclaimer: Sports drinks are pointless unless youre out running/cycling/whatever hard for a couple hours or more. Less than that, drink water.
A mild sugar/salt solution absorbs faster into the bloodstream compared to water and keeps you from bonking.
My redneck mix:
1 12c packet kiddie drink mix powder
1 dl sugar
1 tsp salt
2L water
Ive also used cola, defizzed and diluted 1:1 with water for century rides.

So there :P
Bonking is a euphemisim for sex here but should really mean hitting.
Bonk is for boney people, they should call it "squidging" for the rest of us.

Do you mean Dioralyte? :) Now that stuff... tastes bloody RANK!... but cures hangovers in record time :) Also dont think they are intended for use in exercise, they are pretty damn potent... rehydration salts are for use in emergencies, or just one offs :D imo

Why pay good money for salt and sugar?
In Africa, many kids with the poops have been saved by spreading this simple rehydration recipe: handful of sugar, pinch of salt, and 1L water.

Cause instead of carrying a bag of sugar and a bag of salt around. or a premixed solution... I carry 10 tiny sachets that mix up to make 15 to 20 litres of rehydration fluids. :)

Its for diorhea and contains glucose not sucrose (white granulated sugar). The glucose ferries water and salts past the bacteria causing the problem and into the persons body rehydrating them.
Normally its supplied in little plastic bags ready measured for a litre of water.
