Im thinking of getting something that affords me better mileage and a bit more luxury than the MX-5, first glance Ive had has been at a Audi A4 1.8 T Sport/SE (150), Im not sure what the mpg is like on these but the luxury aspect is there. Insurance premiums seem to be hovering around the same as my current cheapest renewal quote (just over £1000 fully comp).
Any other good car suggestions? Anyone think I should just stick with the 5? Is a late 90s Audi A4 a good bet or likely to be a duffer? Around 2k is my purchasing mark.
If you root around there are some absolute bargains out there.
A4s, Ghia spec Mondeo, Mazda 6. There are plenty of good well built saloons with good engine ranges.
Facts and Figures.

youll be lucky to get 25mpg out of that
real lucky.
I thought they were supposed to be pretty good, at least better than 25mpg, thats not much better than my car now!
What would you recommend, Mark? Please dont say a Citroen :D
Get the diesel version of same. Or a Mondeo diesel, Mk2
You want economy so youre looking at a 1.8 Turbo? ;)
1.9 TDI more like it.
saab 95 diesel & run the c**t on chip fat
was getting 650 miles off a full tank on mine
Vectra Ive been lumped with pushes 550 of a full tank
I wouldnt go for a vauxhall 95 - If you were looking at that class of money and wanted something economical but comfortable you are going to have to look at something with high depreciation in the executive sector
if uve got the cash get a mondeo st tdci :D

3x saab 95, 2x mondeos, 2x mercs,2x volvo 60s, 1x vectras.. Ive had them all as company cars in the last 3 years
Saab beats everything hands down in performance & comfort for me. Volvo not far behind, just a little slow of the go.

Yes Ive just realised I was being a late night dingbat looking at Turbo petrols :w00t:
Turbo diesel recommendations welcomed!
Rover 45 or MG ZS 2.0 Turbo Diesel...
Youd be suprised, you really would! Cheap to buy, tax, insure, and run. Comfortable suspension, good handling, decent power, and plenty of horses to be had if you want to mod it.
A Mitsubishi Lancer, theres a 1.6 model and I think its under the cc size for cheaper tax.
I think it wouldnt break down to much either.
Search ebay for Dual Fuel or LPG and get an LPG car... LPG might still go up, but it normally goes up at the same time as petrol. Although you cant take LPG cars on the channel tunnel.
Or... save up 2000 more and get a Volvo C70 coupe.
how much cash money do you wanna spend? thatll give people a much better idea of what to suggest
It wasnt very clear from my first post, around 2k, but Id stretch to more for something good.
Youll defo need a diesel if you want to see any significant difference... Id personally go for the Mondeo ST TDCI, can be had for 8-9k.... will probably come down more once the new shape mondeo st is released.
