Title: Engine oil
Post by: Clock'd 0Ne on September 05, 2008, 09:04:12 AM
My 1.2 Clio has what I believe is 15W40 semi synth in. Am I okay topping this up with Mobil 1 0W40 fully synth, or is this a bad idea?

I would think that to be a waste better to do a full oilchange and go to fully synth after the change. (I would drain and fill with a couple of liters diesel, start the engine briefly and drain again before adding new oil and filter but that is me :)  )

Ive already got the oil sat around, I figured I might as well use it is all :)

MOT is soon so I may just get a full oil change done on it.

What I figured you had some sitting use it no problem, when doing the full oilchange use my method :) fill with cheap oil if high milage on engine.

If its going to be your first oil changecheck that the oil is still good. If it is but the level is low then there shouldnt be a problem topping up a bit. If the oil is at all grotty then do the proper thing and change it.

Its definitely grotty as there is black sludge under the filler cap.

Can of Wynns engine flush, then change the oil and filters.  Itll make your car happy, or at least as happy as anything French ;)

I use halfords 15/40 in mine. 10/40 is a little to runny for my car I think and 15/40 does nicely. I think 15/40 is better for the higer mile cars. I used to use Magnatec 15/40 but I got a big bottle of oil from Halfords, as I was running a little skint one month and its doing fine.

Id just get some 15/40.

I dont know if its the car or the oil, but it feels like its being lubricated with treacle and buterscotch.

I really cant stand the POS.

Go to Asdas half the price and less for 15/40, 20/50 and 10/40.
