Honda were one of the first teams to start using nx4 pantran simulation, their first car was designed/produced without using a wind tunnel.

Cypher

Honda just invested over £1Billion into their aero reasearch only 2 years ago, £25M of that being a new tunnel.

Apart from the fact that their wind tunnel was not properly calibrated for the early season and aero testing has been restricted more,  Why would they ignore this?

neXus

Cypher is right Red and it is well known why the car was crap, it was indeed down to the wind tunnel not being configured correctly, they use the software to produce the designs, revisions and changes but f1 teams ALWAYS use wind tunnels for full testing and development and it is down to if you own or rent one to how fast you progress and has been the case for years.
You own one and you are able to test for longer and do more

Honda people cocked up in a big way and a few prunes configuring things wrong

Deaths Head

Thats the first Ive head about the wind tunnel mess up.

Not going to announce it with a party now are they but it as still very well known when they announced this was the cause during the season. Google will give loads of links

I know, I looked. :)  I would have though ITV would have made a song and dance about it.

i had a guest lecturer from ugs saying the opposite. Honda designed their first car without access to a wind tunnel, as they were on such a tight budget getting started, not to mention they spent years developing their car rather than the usual 10 months.

pantran/nastran is absolutely insane for pfa, i use it at work for airflow systems to make sure the crap i stick onto the car actually works.

yes now they use a wind tunnel, the benefits of being able to use one is infinitely better than relying on the witchcraft of fea. they didnt have one when they first started, which is what i said.

their current problems have been down to them not being able to keep up with the aero updates the other teams create in such an insane short time. their calibration issues further hampered efforts to update their aero package.

Do not believe him, they had a big budget recently for the cars, every Honda persons public statement in regard to it is indeed the misalignment of the wind tunnel

One link but you can easily post 20 from different staff and folk from honda freely admitting the balls up

red

you missed my point. their FIRST CAR WAS DEVELOPED WITHOUT A WINDTUNNEL, I AGREED WITH YOU. f**king hell.

Hamiltons signed a new 5 year deal with McLaren today, wise move.

Sorry whether it was your writing or my reading I read your comment on no wind tunnel as if you meant the current car.

Nothing is wise or straightforward in F1.

red

I didnt edit my original post, I only edited it to make more sense, i made that part clear at the beginning.

since when would i want to change the intention of what i am trying to communicate, i am trying to share what ive learned, not prove a point.

Predictions

What do you think the night race will be like?

Any scandals?

Who will win the championship?

What will be the supprise of the year?

Who will be crap?

I think Hamilton or rakky will win with alonso picking up the odd win.
Toyota the money sink will again be quick in qualifying maybe better in that regard but no where in the race and Williams being very poor this year. BMW I think will have closed the gap on the top two but not able to beat them just yet.
Despite all the talk I think Honda will be pap again this year..

The night race will be ace, All the break lights glowing and engines etc should be cool to see

Rain:
I think the first real rain race will just be an utter disaster with cars off all over the place and even with the rain at a normally drivable capacity the race will not go a head or be stopped and if there is more then 1-2 wet racing or days with rain on a race weekend that cause problems there will be calls for traction control to be put in and I think you may see it be rushed back in and cars with it within 1-2 races for the rest of the season at least.

Not keen on some of the 2009 changes though.
