Just found out my MOT expired on the 15th. Ive got to go to essex on friday for a wedding. I know the car needs a bumper bracket and handbrake linkages. Looking at a few day wait for both those parts.
sh*t the bed.
When my car was stolen my MOT turned out to be a couple of days out of date. The insurance company didnt care - they docked me like £20-30 for the cost of it (Id forgotten it was due tbh).
So, Im sure youd be fine if you drove it and said youd forgotten to renew it. Its easy to forget its due
we get MOT reminders in the post, and have to have an MOT disc on the windscreen. Dont forget then.
i wouldnt risk it to be honest, theyre well within their rights to fsck you over...
Matt
thing is Steve, your car was stolen from a driveway, that means it doesnt need MOT or tax
A few days wait on parts? My local motor factors, NPA Ltd, same as Knightys was able to get a Back box for my Rallye in less than 24 hrs! and the S1 Rallye is not somthing that Id say is common!
(And no the other engine sizes use different size exhaust pipe, so it couldnt have been the same as a 1.1 or a 1.4 or anything like that, as I asked)
Id change motor factors tbh.
Why not see if you can get an extended test drive from Vauxhall or somthing? Say youre thinking of getting a new car and wondering if you can test a car out over 2 days or somthing? might be worth a try?

A fair point - I did drive it there the day before tho :)
Hire cars are fairly reasonable for a day or two. I often pick one up from easycar depots at airports all over the UK (but they have town branches all over the place too). You usually end up with a brand new 1.4 astra or something but its cheap, reliable and does the job for a day or two.

Surely thats not actually true for the tax at least unless youve filled in a SORN form?
correct, over here at least
mr_roll, you sure that back box doesnt appear on AX, 106 Xsi(I think), GTi, Saxo and 205s? - whats the part number

I am defo sure that its different from the XSi as thats the one I actually asked them to check and their part system said it was a different size exhaust to the Rallye model.
I cant remember what the part number was but thats what NPA told me anyway.
It was a generic Bosal one I got too... :)
I cant imagine the 205s having the same exhaust as they were different engines, the XU if Im not mistaken and the TU in mine, although I suppose they could be very similar.

Hire cars are great and surprisingly cheap.
You could get something very smart and not a 1.0 siecento for a bit extra. £25 a day for something like a 1.4 Astra with Enterprise I believe.
I rented one £30 a day for a Ford Focus Ghia, very nice.

Handbrake Dangerous (I knew that already)
Indicator bulb not as orange as it should be (Advisory)
Hiring a Ka to get me to Essex. Although a Diesel may be a better option

Same engines in the 205. The engines theyre using nowadays are still the same as they were 20 years ago basically. Except for the diesels. TUs have been on the go since 87 where they started life in the AX then the 205.
The one of those cars to have is the AX sport - it had the 1300 engine with 2 twin carbs.
