Title: hazard perception test... whos done one ?
Post by: knighty on September 01, 2006, 23:03:53 PM
how many vids do you have to watch ?

its out of 75 right ?

most tests its out of 5, but theres a couple where its out of 5....

so will i have to watch a load of clips ? (14?)

i need to get a higher than normal score because its for an HGV test :o

and so far.... its stupid (the test that is)

cant click too many times or it thinks your cheating.... got to click for every little hazard as soon as possible, because its not really a test for spotting hazards, but for spotting the one that develops into a full hazard in that particular vid....

Im currently waiting my date for the part one ADI examand Im more worried about the hazard perception than any other part. Ive been practicing on one of the Driving Test Success CDs and have worked out more what theyre looking far and am passing fairly consistently. For a tenner its worth a purchase. I think HGV is the same as ADI and you need 57 out of 75. 14 clips, one has two hazards in it.

TBVFH I think its a total waste of time, the situation is totally artificial, you have no sound, mirrors, ability to look around and dont even know where the driver is planning to go.

Iirc 2 of them are 5 point video clips.  Yes it is out of 75.

Indeed, the point of the test is to spot a developing potential hazard.  You wont lose points for clicking at a hazard or, something that didnt turn out to be one.  But random clicking is a sign of cheating.

I avoided the test by booking before it came out, I tired it on the DSA stand at the motor show before it came out.   I thought it was a load of balls then I still do now, for the same reasons goblin has given.  I know I can pass it mind having sat down once randomly with no prior practice on my mates practice video CD.

If they really wanted an effective way of testing hazard perception then they should have learner drivers commentate when appropriate on the situation if there is one, rather than sit and click to a video.

^^ yep, its a load of balls

Im passing pretty consistantly using the practice cd, just I need to pass in a hurry so I can get learning and pass my test... already bought the new van and I cant even drive it :(

(with HGV you cant learn to drive till youve passed both the tests)

think i had to do one on my bikes theory test from memory (4 years ago?)

theres no real guidence on when to click,
if i took it now id probably be clicking before theyre expecting as you do learn to spot stuff even before it becomes a potential hazard.
pushbike on a side street coming into view (well away from junction) id click soon as id seen it not as it was coming upto the junction.

only surefire way to do it would be clicking and pausing the video & blanking it out and finding out why youd clicked each time.

I clicked loads of times, like 4 or 5 for each hazard and I passed, Im not sure what the click-limit is tho.

I found the real thing much easier and it didnt excuse u of cheating as much (but that doesnt mean u can jsut constant click. I also found i clicked too soon when u see somethign that "could" happen, but u only get points for when it does

i.e coming over brow of hill, click incase something over it, oh look a broken down car, no points to early. so on the real thing i clicked twice, its fairly obviouse in most of them which the hazord there after is...

I clicked every 4-6 seconds and when there was a hazard, I got 44 - which is the pass mark

Yeah its 44 for cars and 50 for HGV and PCV.

Knighty are you sure you have to pass the theory part before you can practice on the road? When I did my PCV I actually did pass the theory before starting on the road but I didnt have to by DVLA rules.

How big is the Van then? I assume it must be over 7.5 tonnes as you had your licence pre 97 and therefore automatically get class C1 (3.5-7.5tonne) as well as C1+E and B1+E.

Edit: As I recall I got about 65 for my hazard perception and 34/35 for the other part (I thank my l33t CS skills :D )

I thought you were doing some sort of IT job ?

one of my brothers is a class 2 and was looking at ADI but hes going to be a driving instructor instead...

another brother is a class 1... bot only drives class 2 and has no ambition to push harder :o
