Title: Headlight Unit
Post by: Sam on December 18, 2006, 16:40:47 PM
I replaced the bulb on my mini because it stopped working but it still isnt working so I suspect the headlight unit is bust. Where is the best place to look for one as I was just quoted Ã,£200 !!

If you changed the bulb, then changing the headlight isnt going to make it work.
Have you checked the fuses?

Use a multimeter and check if there is actually power reaching the headlight unit and bulb holder. You may have a broken wire or link somewhere.

Normally these things are easy to fix anyway and you shouldnt need a new unit.

Like everybody else said, try a different bulb, clean contacts, check fuse, then use a meter. A dodgy HL unit is probably the least likely culprit. Usually its squirrels.

Is this a common problem?  I saw a mini this evening with its left hand side headlamps out.  Both dimmed and sidelight.
