i do like BMWs.. im yet to drive one tho and the image that comes with the car might be an issue. How much is that just out of interest?

Ive had an older one. Nice cars. The frameless windows are pretty neat. Very high quality interiors usually compared to Honda and Toyota. Engine is a flat four, so nice handling. Drawback is that they get piss poor economy compared to other Jap or Korean cars. Not that that matters here with $2 gas. Look into that, and the UK spec might be different. Id drive one again in a heartbeat. Theres nothing more practical than a medium sized wagon.

Its considered a compact in the US. A larger compact, to be sure.

This (http://www.stationwagon.com/gallery/1972_Ford_Country_Squire.html) is a full sized wagon.

Dont expect to get more than 25mpg out of the 2.0 engine in the Subaru, and thats if you drive it gingerly. :P

cheers for that

i dunno theres a fair few motors about for the money (3-6k) but it is slashed down by avoiding FWD, still loads to choose from and think about.

Might have to go for a few test drives

Anything short of a Volvo estate, including a Rolls Royce, would be considered compact in the US. The volvo just might stretch into medium car status.

There used to be cartoons of huge saloons with small cars as lifeboats hanging off the rear or sides. There was also one of a garage attendant asking the driver to switch off the engine as it was gaining on him.

It gives you room in the back for a bed, just black the windows, make sure the springs are well damped and off you go... :heehaw:

I dont see why you want a huge estate either, get yourself a nice looking car for a change instead of boats with big engines.

That s14a would have my pants wet if it wasnt in marooooon.

No Toy Cars yet you dont want FWD?

Surely the majority of cars being FWD gives some clue as to what is more sensible?

To me you dont need anything other than FWD unless you want a sports car, an off-roader, or load-pulling ability maybe? And do you really need any of those things?

Range Rover is a bit wacky too unless youre a farmer.

You only need 4WD if you are going off road or travelling very fast. To compensate they use more fuel. RWD gives you a compromise, more acceleration at the cost of a longer drivetrain. The handling is also different from a front wheel drive. RWD is better if you are going to be towing or carrying loads up hill.

You cant really say that as a fact.

Some people see 4WD as Standard, others FWD or RWD. A friend of myn swears by RWD, thinks that nothing beats it. Its all a self opinion. Only thing I dislike about his idea of a 4x4, I hate 4x4s with a passion Land Rovers, Discoverys the lot! They are death traps to other road users!

I had FWD and lived with it untill 4x4 calibra.. now thats back in FWD im hateing it and pulling away or out of junctions with FWD is crap!

can get plenty of normal cars in RWD if you like BMWs and all subarus are 4x4 along with loads of other stuff.. if i was after a coupe id have looked at the 200sx as i drove one last summer and enjoyed it enough. Id also be looking at GTOs and supras

But im looking for 4 or 5 door cars that aint FWD for less than 6k and yes theres plenty of off road haters but iv always liked the range rovers.. but then im not decided anyway so could be seen in a BMW or subaru

Which bit cant I say as a fact?

4WD gives you a little better traction when accelerating, RWD gives you some advantage and FWD gives you none.

I posted an article a few months back that proved Discoverys were less safe than people carriers and more expensive to run. Most are still built on older technology.

Make a stupid mistake or push in and get in the way of a car your gonna think meh, have a landy smash into you youll think twice about doing it again.. or wont be able to do it again.. either way its win win
