just built my first ebike
1000w 48v ebay kit
72v10ah battery from bms battery
72v 1500w hua tong controller
(http://imageshack.us/a/img689/2997/20121002193316.jpg)
still needs tidying up a bit, better waterproofing, going to take the controller apart and remove the extra wires, connect ebreaks, and need a rear break cable because i converted it to disk too (already has a front disk)
but i figured it was enough to have a quick go in the back garden.... in the rain... in the dark... bad move
started out ok, was great, gave it full power to see what it's like... was awesome...
then i realised how fast i was going... (it's a long garden)
then... suddenly out of the dark... there's a wheel barrow infront of me... too late... can't miss it... no room to stop... I hit the front break anyway... came straight off... slid about 20 feet... wrecked my right arm and knee.... but was ok at first... just limping a bit...
but then my right arm started to hurt... a lot... and I can normally ignore pain.. figured it must be broken...
7hours in A+E.. its not broken... but I'm torn/messed up most of the tendons/ligaments in it.... can't move it at all without the pain making me want to pass out or puke...
but on the upside the bike was awesome.... really need a rear break and a helmet tho!!!
The bike looks awesome  but that ruined arm isn't good. You might need some physical therapy to get it back in to shape once its healed up, don't try and start using it too early or you might tear it again or it will take even longer to heal properly.
Awesome post, nice work on the bike. With all that weight over the front wheel you didn't stand a chance using the front brake.
Hope the arm heals up quickly and you can get it out on the open road.

LOL....
just my luck.... woke up hearing a loud bang downstairs... assumed we were being burgled... jumped up and ran down stairs as fast as i could... dog had knocked the tv over...
it wasn't till I started back upstairs that the pain hit me.... i'd thrown the sheets off with my left arm... inside 20 min my wrist swelled up to twice it's normal size :-(
Bike sounds awesome, accident not so much. Did put a picture in my head of some kind of sitcom calamity though. Maybe "Johnny English Reborn" with the electric wheel chair scene.
How many RPM is that back wheel doing? sounds like a hard-drive
no ideas how many rpm... should apparently be good for 60mph...
and just to keep my luck going in the same direction.... another radiologist saw my xrays and wants me to go back tomorrow morning for more xrays :(

might want to think about fixing the brakes before you test that.......
sorry to hear about your accident, hope you're soon on the mend! bike does look cool though
Hope its not bad news for you tomorrow. I should have bought you a copy of Dragon Dictate for your birthday.
just got back....
another 6 hours of my life wasted in A+E
only this time they've decided it is broken... but it's only small and seeing as I've already managed a few days like this they're just going to leave it alone (no cast etc...)
so 15hours total in A+E just to be told.... go home :-(
Good to hear its not broken at least, hopefully you will be much better by next month.
So is it a hairline fracture then? And why are they just leaving it :-X good old NHS!

screwed if i know..... i was that sick of waiting I was ready to go home and made myself a paper mache plaster
I was pretty much told... you've put up with it for half a week now... so keep doing that
No..Motorcrossers need to got BRrrrrrrrrrrrrrapaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaappppp
first proper ride on it today... rode into work, 5miles, average speed 18mph, top speed 37mph, took about 20min
was nice to be on a bike and be able to keep up with traffic.... overtook a moped at one point... just couldn't resist it (there were 2 lanes and no cars)
other than that, I've been doing a mile and a half every night taking the dog out... I stick to 5mph ish so she can happily trot along side me... I'll give it a few more weeks and then start going a bit further :-)
got some new 2.4wide tyres on which help smooth the ride out and are much better in the mud too :-)

quick update
new motor, in a motorbike wheel, good for 12kw continuous and over 20kw peak
running a 2.5kw controller right now, but I've got a 32kw controller on the way (programmable so I can limit it down)

also ordered a cycle annalist - a handle bar computer thigie to go between the throttle and controller, so the throttle will adjust power instead of speed
otherwise it would just do this...
p.s. that's my nephew in the photos above not me, I was taking the photos... he's only 16 and almost as tall as me :-o
What frame is that? Looks like a barracuda.
How have you modified the swing arm to take a 150mm hub?

yeah it's a barracuda... gave one of the lands who works for me £30 because it had a broken pedal :o
to open up the swing arm..... I jammed a little trolley jack in and jacked the apart a bit :D
it's the same frame I've had all the time, totally bodged but I'm just experimenting with it until I find something better or build myself one
any idea what size bearings I'll need for the heat tube ? the top one has totally gone, handle bars jump forward about 5cm when you brake right now :-o
have you got a better picture of the headtube/stem area?
It looks like an 1 1/8" threaded headset. You would be best off cracking it all open, and going to a bearing shop and get loose bearings.
If they are in a cage, you usually add 1-2 extra bearings.
Have you tried tightening them? Loosen the top nut, tighten the bottom one until the forks move freely and smoothly, then tighten the top nut again.
You might need some thin spanners to achieve this.
