Title: Might have nuked the Soarer.
Post by: soopahfly on November 09, 2010, 12:50:34 PM
Unwitting me, as I was dropping off the wife at work this morning, I got into an argument with some taxi driving bellend who well not draw any stereotypes about, despite being in Firth Park.......

Next thing I know, the car is making funny noises, and I look at my instruments.  Temp gauge right at the top and flashing.
Look up, and steam pours out from the bonnet, and out the headlights.
I pull over to a side road, and out the traffic.  The crank pulley has de-laminated.

I dont know now if Ive cooked the engine, Im not sure if the axillary belt powers the water pump etc.

So it might be dead, might be an easy fix.
Might be time for a nice 7 series or a pickstuffuptruck.

I am a secret redneck at heart, so a pickup would be ideal.

You do realise people will be asking you to help shift stuff all the time if you get it? ...maybe you're more helpful than me! :P But that would put me off big time!

If I got a Volvo, Itd be an 850 T5/R.

My concern is, where I live the minute you get a mm of snow the roads are completely blocked.
Last year, Our Honda was that useless it struggled to get along the flat parts of Walkley.
The Soarer was better, but 200bhp and RWD makes a worrying prospect.

Because Im self employed, I need to get places no matter what the weather, so Im a bit concerned by FWD/RWD cars to get me out from where I live.
Ive been considering...

Skoda Octavia 1.8T 4x4
Subaru Legacy (GTB)
Pick Ups, But these dont really have the image Im after for work.

Octavia Scout is nice if you want a normalish looking family car with dodgy conditions handling capability. Its got a bit more ground clearance than the standard car and a toughened underside for the rock you didnt see because it was covered in snow.

Im tempted by that or the 4x4 for my next car.

Seems to be OK now that the pulley has been rebonded.

Im now tempted to sell it, so that its in a working condition and explore other options that havent got 144k on the clock and 16 years old.
