Whos in for a friendly mileage competition? Best way to keep sort of honest is to post a photo of your computers trip reading set at zero, and the trip meter at the end of the week. We could start today or tomorrow if yall like.
I did 120 this week, but Im willing to try for 200, if it means crushing the competition. RAwr.
I dont think Ive ever done 120 in a month even. I dont feel crushed though :P
Ive had my bike 4 1/2 years and the trip doesnt even show half that
Bok bok bok bok booooookooook
Im up for it. Starting tomorrow
Allright, so by tommorrow, those that are in, need to post either a pic of their trip odometer, and not reset it duringthe week, or alternately their culmative odometer and well do the math. Perhaps off road miles should count a little more?
Im just looking for a motivator, so if stoopit braggin rights is all I can get, so be it.
Catch me if you can.
1.67miles then a crash :D lol.
BONUS POINTS FOR ME!!!! :D
I propose we have a weight to weight handicap factor. You have to post an integer defined by your weight divided by the weight of your bike; this will then be multiplied by your mileage to produce the number which the competition will be judged on :P
^^^been noshing on the tablet again, Greg?^^^

Anyone think I need some new handlebars ?
Depends how deep they are, But Id say YES!
Bring it on, Paulus! It all ends local time next Sunday midnight, or until somebody has chest pains. :D

Anybody else that wants to join this stupidity, youre welcome to hop on board this week. Got multiple bikes? As long as they all have trip computers, multiple pooters are fine. If you want to still use your trip meter, just post a pic of your sum odometer. ;)
Part of me thinks I might be scammed on this...with Paulus egging me on with false reports of 80, 100, and 150 miles...then the final pic shows 0.7.
/me waits for madmax or BX to show pics of their "Bikes" odo.
Meh, I ride further than I drive most years, not by much. I used to ride 8-10K per year, but its more like 4-5K these days. Car gets about 5K per year, if that. People that drive 20-30K per year amaze me, which is rather common in these parts, Unless it was fun mileage, like cross country touring, Id go mad sittig in traffic for that long.
Anyway--NO motors allowed. If you can mount an odo to your skateboard or blades, youre welcome to join. :P
I think I should get bonus points for using a mountain bike with big Tioga tyres. :P
Today Ive done 3.6 miles to work and back. WOO YAY.
Im going to have to pull a couple of 50 milers if Im going to get anywhere.
Thats nothing, I used to have a muddy fox with 3"x26" tyres.

Ill handicap you then. Add 30% to your final mileage if youre using knobbies over 2". :P
I started it off with a 30 miler this late afternoon. 1:40--which isnt bad considering that there are no long downhills to rest on or gain average speed on. Last couple miles of my route has switchbacks, which kills any chance of a 20+mph average route.  One clip out at a stop sign, damn, I always like it when I can do 30 without tabbing. The quads have a mild burning sensation from the experience, but no actual soreness. :P
I only managed 107 this week. Poo. Two days of thunderstorms and a 7 mile day due to popped spoke. :(
I did
M 30
T 20
W
T 7
F
S 20
S 30
Meh, Ill start again and try to get 200 this week.

on average i do 120 miles per week at intermediate to high tempo (even on commuter rides), and sometimes upto 180 if i am on a sunday club ride.

Proooovvvee it boyo :P lol Enter into the tekforums mileage whoring contest :D lol.
I fully intend taking advantage of this when Im back on the road. :)
Yeah, the Exif info from photos, though alterable, is enough to keep ya honest. :P
I did about 35 utility miles on the Brodie, but no computer to log them.
ill post a picture of my monster toned calf muscles to prove it...
 :D lol

Proves nothing. I could post a picture of my veiny third leg, but it would not be proof of all the tail Im getting. No, thats what STDs are for! :D

So have you the full set of Sexually Transmitted Diseases or are you missing some?

look gentlemen,
im a cyclin monster at the moment, 120mile-180mile a week, 2-3 miles a week in the pool and 10mile a week running...
BEAT_THAT.
(im actually training for my ironman tri next year, so ner ;)).
lol Done 52miles dead on this week (cheated a little, went around in circles to get it to tick over from 51.9 :D) so far, but forgot to take piccy of speedo at the start of the week so :( doesnt count in the grand scheme of things. Will take a photo next monday, and start posting on ere! :D
first day back on the bike after my epic mountain biking the week before.
did 20miles+ today. knees are stilled shagged. :(
Hmm... I have tried something new when getting back on the bike this week. Ive been "spinning" instead of grinding, realised that my speed is actually up when im spinning rather than just in a high gear. Even on the flat.
So Ive been trying it up hills on my commute, its certainly giving me a workout heart pumps so hard I can feel it pulse through my head. Though Ive started to notice a slight pain in my right knee... running down the side of it.
Dont know if its just because I had 3 weeks of no cycling and getting back into it, or if its the spinning hurting my leg, but it definately caused a twinge on the ride home this evening. Hmm... any ideas?

could be a number of things...
1) is your seat the right height? (knee should be slightly bent on the downstroke of the pedal.)
2) your body is just getting back into cycling again after a lay off.
3) general wear and tear/fatigue exacerbated by cycling.
4) Depending on how fast you are spinning you may have just over-extended a muscle or something...
I (and i am sure other heavy duty cyclists) get pains all the time, its an occupational hazzard, i guess.
aye seat is right. I did feel like my feet werent comfortable on the pedals though, like it was always either too far forward, or too far back, I could never get them "comfy" like I remember my position being.
Pah, im sure its just "your a lazy arse" pains, but may have a check see if my saddle didnt get shifted when I crashed or something.

spinning is a good way to cycle, i used to be a f*cking gear masher when i was younger, id sit on the smallest cog on the back and push a ring on the front the size of a bin lid - it did reap dividends - id smoke lads twice my age by simply cranking the bike for all it was worth, but it doesnt work out good in the long run on the knees and i suppose its just harder over the space of a long ride - id be thumping along for the first 20 miles then hanging off the back for the last 20.
Spinning is good to a degree. My SS is geared so that a comfy spin lets me cruise at about 20mph at 100rpm or so. Faster than 24mph, and I have my issues with starting to bounce in the saddle.
Sounds like just regular pains. Make sure your hips arent rocking like Little Richard, and that your legs arent hyperextending. Pedal with the balls of your feet over the pedal axles, yadda yadda bing bong.
Bottom line: spinning requires more focus on form than mashing, as youre repeating mistakes more often.
