There is something unique about every motorsport division, its all to easy to dismiss something on its inital impressions.  Every motorsport has a different challenge and requires something different from both team and drivers.

F1 is reffered to as the pinacle of motorsport because of what it involves, the money invested, the technical ability of the teams, the man power and resources, not to mention a driver capable of consitently capable of pushing that machine to its relaible limits.

Its the main reasons why there are only so many races and 10 teams involved.  Its a sport that was surely going to meet a financial and political fate if they had not been obsessed with cost reductions as the FIA have been the last few years.

With the nextel cup for example,  there is a 36-race schedule over 41 weeks, compared to F1 or Indy Car.  There are also 43 cars starting on the track.

Suddenly not sounding as easy a task to be a consistant top driver is it.  Its a different challenge.

It is notable at the 2006 US Grand Prix, Jeff Gordon (four-time NASCAR Winston Cup) said that when he drove Juan Pablo Montoyas F1 car in June 2003 he was shocked at the speed, braking, and handling of the vehicle and that driving one is on a whole different difficulty level.

As much as I find NASCAR fans to be often a bit thick--its very challenging to drive those cars. The stance and bodies of the car make them far harder to handle than F1 cars that have fewer limitations on design. It can be fun to watch. The strategy is much easier to observe than with F1. Its more like velodrome racing with all the drafting and whatnot. Again, shame about the fans.
