Title: MR2 to Ferrari 360
Post by: chrisdicko on June 08, 2010, 01:00:37 AM
Just randomly looking on Pistonheads and found a few of these.

They convert the newer MR2 in to a replica of a Ferrari 360.

From the pictures they look fantastic!! Although the sound and performance will be disappointing, and maybe could embarrass you? Not the cheapest, but I think it would be fun to own one! (Im not getting one though)

I have seen this on TV before. Lots of places do this. You can also pay for an engine upgrade as well to actually perform a little better and make it sound more like the Ferrari but of course will never be as good performance wise.

Have to agree with Edd, i would be embarrassed to drive one. Its like wearing a fake watch but will draw 100x more attention to itself.

Who cares if its fake? Only an anorak would know the difference, or care about it.

Providing it gets you from A to B with good performance there isnt really an issue.

hehe, Im not buying one or anything.

Do you really think theyre that bad?

I agree with Serious, 99% of the people probably wouldnt know the difference.....although it would draw a lot of attention, which you maybe wouldnt want being a fake.

Ive not seen the Boxster to Carrera kit before either to be honest.

Or an NSX, like your examples, something that is what it is.

These mr2 conversions have been going on for a while now, varies in quality bigtime usually the interior is the giveaway on most of them.

Being as you can get a decent mr2 turbo for about 5k though I dont see the point.

Exactly, so why bother faking it?

You have no taste serious, and your logic is flawed

you wouldnt buy an expensive fake to get from A to B would you

I still think it looks good. Although you probably would get the piss taken more than any compliments.

I emailed the guy, and he said:
Quotehi the fitting of panels is excellent as you would expect by DNA, the car is fitted with a genuine 360 section of exhaust inc tailpipes so sounds pretty good, the performance i would believe would be the same as a standard 1.8 mr2 but you cant go reving it to hard through the gears as i think it would be a bit of a give away due to the fact that it doesnt produce 400bhp.

 Cant rev it too hard

I was discussing these in work yesterday, not because of this link.  The verdict at work is that these are pointless, who in their right mind would really want one?

If I had £20k for a car, NSX all the way.

I suspect what hes getting at is that the harder you push one of these the more obvious it is that its a fake. If its just cruising along it might pass for a Ferrari, but put your foot down and make it roar and it will be obvious youre not moving fast enough.

I dont see the point, its not fast like a Ferrari so its only purpose is to draw attention. As soon as much attention is paid it will be clear that its a fake, at which point the best outcome you can hope for is that the attention fades away. More likely the owner will be subject to ridicule.

not for me Im afraid.

Id go with the 911 for 20K or spend the 20K on an Ultima GTR kit car.
