The Association of insurers announced possible hefty hikes in your insurance.
In there first overhaul for 15 years they have decided that extra premiums are needed for heavy cars. The reason for this is they cause more damage to roads,Pedestrians and other vehicles.

Insurance groups will rise from 20 to 50.

The association of British drivers claim its just another excuse to increase premiums.

Heres a few examples

Mini Cooper goes from group 8 to 21
Ford focus zetec climate tdci goes from group 7 to 15
Chysler voyager exec CRD goes from group 15 to 33
Audi A8 Quattro goes from group 20 to 50
Land rover discovery HSE V8 goes from group 16 to 42

For your new group just go here
http://www.abi.org.uk/carinsurance/search.asp

here is how to understand the infomation
http://www.abi.org.uk/carinsurance/help.asp

mine has gone from group10 to 21, mine is quite good because of the E and T1 security and alarm system, apparently.

question.. what the luck has car insurance got to do with the weight of the car damaging the roads??

And cars will only damage other cars or pedestriains if you actually hit them! Cant see the need to ask for more money or change the system at all. most of the time your paying 100s if not 1000s for a sheet of paper worth nothing at the end of the year.. pointless, should make insurance optional IMO, iv never had anyone claim from mine, so have spent best part of Ã,£5k on nothing

Damage to bollards, hedges, signs, Etc. Gouges in the road surface do happen, although rare.

erm... that has nowt to do with car insurance tho.. thats road tax.

and ploughing into pavement furniture etc.. will no doubt be a claim off your insurance anyway.. still cant see how that has anything to do with insurance cost tbh, itd be like hitting a car

Edd

mine went from 5 to 11, that means nothing to me tho

Depends on how they adjust premiums...I think you willl just get more uninsured drivers...therefore driving up prices again.

Its not very nice to say but driving around with no insurance in an old banger seems quite attractive.  If you get caught the fine isnt so bad,,,youll save treble that if you do not get caught for a few years.

And if they ban you....hey ho just carry on...lol.

Why dont they just come clean & admit that they are having to fork out millions to cover the cost of those without insurance.

I personally think it would be better just to introduce a new category.
3rd party
3rd party fire & theft
fully comp exc accident with non insured drivers
fully comp inc  accident with non insured drivers

Binary Shadow

fully comp exc accident with non insured drivers - just isnt fully comp is it, might as well have 3rd party

Maldonado

how about fully comp, excluding accidents that youre caused? (so young male drivers could get massive discounts)
