All you big-girls blouses with your big tyred mountain bikes, to you i say, HA!
I went to work on my road bike today but in my haste to get there in quick time, i decided to off road it for some of the journey, hey, i had mudguards on!!!
This had to be the most fun ive had (on a bike) in a while, two wheel drifiting it, locking up the front wheel... Im going to take up cyclocross after that, completely barmy, but seriously good fun, just a little dicey when youre locked in on the SPD-R pedals...
You nut. I do it all the time on mine. Traction is for pussies and yes-men. :P

Depends on the season. My local wetlands are utterly soupy right now.
As spring is here, you could just ditch the mudguards and mount up some 32mm cx tires on your existing kit. :D
Old 80 touring bikes, converted to single speed and mounted with knobbies are super cheap and fun to toss around in the peanut butter of this season.
Ive just got back from 20 miles and its not often I swap my running shoes for a bike and I have to say Ive never been so dirty (well except for cross country running 1 feet deep in cow sh*t).
