Needed to do a shopping run to Costco, so guess Ill just pop in Allanti (http://allanti.com/index.cfm) and get me one of these:

I sold the Brodie this morning for $550, the exact amount I paid for it, including shipping and duty. Sorry to see it go--the brake "rub" was just a loose reflector banging on a spoke. :D I fixed it and took it on a 15 miles goodbye ride yesterday. Hell of a bitchin urban bike. The 925 will be infinitely cooler though.
Sold it to a grad student with a Chinese wife. What other wife would let her man buy such a thing. :D He was uncomfortable with city riding--well, new to it, so I took him on a bombtastic 10 miles poop your pants urban adventure this morning. :D Otter Boot Camp! Yes Sir! Gimme 20! Hes primed and confident to inherit my steed now. :D
Ta, got a 2 day lead time on the 925 as theyve got one in Texas. :ptu:
i must say i liked the brodie, purely aethetically.
this seems a bit minimal.
but then again what do i know, it is prolly a firking excellent ride :)
Road bikes without drop bars make me cry inside :whoops:
Apples and oranges really. The Brodie was one hell of a nicely designed frame mated with pedestrian components. The Redline has a super durable traditional steel frame, and far superior cartridge bearing hubs. The brakes are much less fussy than disks. And its a fixed gear for crying out loud. Coolness 8)
3 week lead time as they just sold the last ones in the Texas warehouse. OTOH, Im getting the 2007 model, which is black or black fade. They werent sure. Either sounds fine. :D

Those are drops, just shallow ones. The width of moustache bar is excellent for climbing, and you can get just as aero with a different hand position than regular drops. Heck, the most coveted of cult jap bikes, the Bridgestone XO had moustache bars. 8)

Im just fussy aesthetically :D Only bars Id have on my bikes are standard drops, or homemade cutoff drop bars (like this (http://www.hubjub.co.uk/nitto/nittobbarzm.jpg), without the $$$) if Im feeling super adventurous
Cowhorns are for velo-vegans and other such malodorous folk.
the bullhorns are a nice shape tho :D

I like the overall shape of the bike but Im with FC9K here, traditional drop handlebars rule, especially with an aerobar setup 8)
For an urban sh*t kicker, moustache bars lord over both drops and flats as youve got leverage and instant braking. Drops with cxbrakes mounted inline topside are another option, but you lose the leverage. I was a hooge fan of the Bridgestones and their bar, as its not only smart, its an homage to a shape far older than the drop bar.
Best drops are Nitto Noodles, btw.
Aerobars are hideous and only to be used by the invalid and time trialers/triathletes. :gag:
OTOH they do offer a very aerodynamic position which is very comfortable on long runs.
Dont knock em until you have tried em :P
I like my drops on my roadie just fine. My bodys perfectly happy the way it is...and theyre ugleeee :gag:  I remember they were the rage in the 80, that and rear wheel spoke covers in lycra. Oh, the humanity. :drama:
On a funny note about ordering the bike, I knew I needed a 60cm, but the kid in the shop wanted to measure me with his computer. I told him my saddle height and that I keep my knees 1cm behind the pedal axles. Computer said the same dang thing. Boy did that kid blush. Thought he was going to one up the Otter! :D
Well, I realized now that whenever anybody asks, "Who wants a moustache ride" Ill have to answer truthfully.

eye of the beholder :P
ahhh so the redline is go, is it? you bloody big gayer! :)
that bike is sh*t hot, thats all i am going to say.... perfect for city life in everyway. 8)
I wont have the exclusivity of the Brodie in this neck of the woods. :P Seems that every single bike shop guy Ive talked to is planning on getting one. Most think just like me: you can get a cheap IRO frame, build it up with sh*ttier parts, and spend $800 or you can spend jack and get something nicer like the Redline. I havent seen one in the wild yet, so well see. The Monocog, however, is incredibly popular everywhere over here.
Im loving the wheel spec: normal silver rims with 36 spokes, and really nicely finished small flange catridge hubs. 36H undished rear! Bombstastico!
Gah, I hate having to wait for it though. They ran out of this years model something like 2 days before I had cash in hand. :grrr:
/me sings "Who wants a moustach ride? I DO I DO!"
I saw a top of the line womens mid 70s Raleigh Sports yesterday for $20. Cool as fixed gear is, I may eventually rebuild the 925s rear wheel onto a S/A AW 3-spd hub. Whats cool about them compared to the Shimanos, is that the middle gear is direct drive. :ptu:

sturmey archer - rock and roll.
I knew a guy up in Chicago that completely rebuilt a 70s mens Raleigh Sports. Again, the top notch lugged version. He used modern alloy wheels, alloy post, bars, and stem, ss spokes, etc--replaced everything except the frame, fenders, cranks, and rear hub. Cool as hell everyday rider, from 20 foot away it was totally retro, but upon inspection, you saw the small changes, like alloy handlebars (Nitto North Road, btw) that dropped 5 pounds from the bikes mass.
:ptu:
Three weeks later I call the shop, and the shipment isnt even in Seattle yet. :wtf:  :rage:
I may wait a week and demand my money back and buy a Dahon Vitesse (http://www.chwhite.btinternet.co.uk/html/dahon_vitesse_d5.html). :D

Not exactly cheap though. Few days ago I saw a couple on a pair of 5 gear folding bikes, looked nifty but I didnt fancy finding out the price.
I can get the Dahon for $470 shipped outta NYC. Thats CHEAP for a bike thats often considered the best folder under a grand. Uglier than sin, as are all folders, but Ive always wanted one for the obvious convenience.
More Like Ã,£360 if you go through fleabay and Ã,£400 if you go to an online dealer. Seems the makers have the price fixed.
Street price here is $450 USD, and its $500 list. Quite fair, tbh.

Awesome bike, but four weeks late. Highly recommended, but dont buy from my shop.
Things wrong with it as set up by them:
Cog loose (unscrewed at an intersection, nice)
Brake levers 6cm (!) off
Brake pads toed in backwards (har de har)
Saddle angled down 20 degrees (idiotos)
Tires subbed with some real $5 crap
Chain tight enough to snap
Brake cables too long by far.
Of course being a true landotter, I mitigated everything but the cog in minutes after arrival, and wrote a snail mail letter with *diagrams* to the bike shop in as nice of a patronized tone as could be expected, as the f*ckers almost killed me. They got back to me today, both the CEO of the local chain, and the manager. They were mortified. So Im at least getting the stock tires, which are indestructable IRC tandems.
Moustache bars are brilliant and comfy. Everything is solid and works fine. Saddle is a WTB Speed clone. Even the mini-clips are OK, though it needs some chrome and leather to be a real sexy fixie.
Ah, to be back on a fixed gear again. Good times. Dead simple, technique comes from the recesses of the brain. Its trick to get into a toe clip if you cant coast the first few times. Letting your legs go to jello on a long downhill. The utter control you have in tactical urban situations. I might as well remove the freewheel, as Ill never use it.
Worth every penny or even more, just will never deal with this shop again. I think they felt that dealing with a $500 bike was beneath them. Thing is, if it had had gears on it, itd been a $1000 bike, and they usually offer sweet service to *those* people. Screw em, I got my 925 in the end. :D
Im no cyclist, but that looks the business 8)
Black to ti fade, baby! Ive been loving it. Get on and pedal, no distractions. Im about to take it on a little jaunt right now to Le Olde Whiskey Shoppe, as tommorrow is Thanksgiving, and it will be closed.
Absolutely perfect urban stealth vehicle. Fast, but with bombproof wheels. Yarr! Same rims I had on my stolen bike, they went 40K without needing truing. :ptu: Hubs that turn like buttah.
No freewheel=NINJA BIKE! Watch your back, I can be anywhere!!
You can hear me coming from miles around on my Hope XC hubs.
Just wait till I get some ProIIs and strip the grease from the pawls :D
BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT
My single speed has a Shimano Silent Clutch pawl-less system for teh win!
I was tempted to go fixed when my back wheel got nicked. Still might, tempted to source a 28H fixed hub and have a go rebuilding the spare front I got onto that.
