it wasnt 100% my fault but close enough.

looks like you went into the back of someone? Isnt it automatically your fault by default?

Thats a damn gay rule I know :(

ah man!
i guess the sunroof rubber trims the least of your worries now.

surprising how little (if any) damage the rest of the front has taken other than the bonet. what car did you hit?

i bought a new sunroof and fitted it the other day too.

i hit an old cavalier, its rear bumper was pushed in and that was it, i couldnt see any damage to the boot floor either. hit it at not much less than 30.

i was told that green cars are bad luck aswell.

an old cav, can expect the rear doors to be sticking where the shell has moved and maybe a leaking sunroof after a rear ender, will write it off..

no idea on yours.

iv been through a few cars for those who are asking but im yet to hit anyone myself.. been hit 3/4 times now.. lost count lol

Ahh your the one, yeah not your fault but you been in a few :)

It is odd when you look at the pics a bit though how its gone, its like he has hit the front element of the bonnet and its just took all the load and buckled in the corners

from my parts catalog
god knows why the rear bumper has split at the mounting points!

BONNET      BKA140100   99-05   1   294.12
FRONT BUMPER   DPC001230LML   99-05   1   192.86
REAR BUMPER      DQB001720LML   99-05   1   185.71

painting probably cost £200-300 per item + labour

also depends if slam panels(£70), front panel(£200), front cross member(£150), head light mounting panels(50ea) are damaged and even if they are easily available etc.

car is insured for £6500 so it wont be written off, wouldnt be too fussed if it is tho, as long as i get a good price.

cool, looks like the front bumper buckled and sprang back leaving the bonnet folded..

i could go through the list of "reasons why its 100% your fault and should never have happened" like has happened to me in the past

e.g. must have been going to fast, should have been paying attention, obviously too close to the car in front, should be more aware of the environment and possible hazards...

but since i live in the real world where accidents do happen i wont..

Hope your car gets sorted and it all goes though as smootly as possible for ya.. in my experiance tho it rarely does

Wouldnt argue it mate.

Friend had exactly the same happen. Argued it, guy in front managed to wrangle the police to prosecute for driving without due care and attention, mate narrowly avoided a ban (she was 1 week short of 2 years driving).

hmm, i wonder how they managed to get the police to do that, any idea if they attended the scene?
Title: ooops
Post by: M3ta7h3ad on September 16, 2007, 23:04:49 PM
Yeah police attended the scene. The guy kept changing his statement apparantly.

Initially the onus was on him, because he stopped for no reason (accident was in outside lane and embankment... he stopped on the inside lane and stopped dead... not just slowed), police were already on scene dealing with the accident.

Then he stated that he didnt stop, that he slowed.

Then he stated that he jumped from the car fearing his life, after he saw these lights heading towards him, and said he saw the driver bending over like she was changing cds (her car radio was broken before the accident).

Dont know how it happened... just yeah her story was. he stopped dead in the road, and didnt put his hazards on (this is also in one of the policemans statements apparantly.. the driver went back to the car to turn the hazards on after the crash after talking to someone else). His story was he slowed down, but saw the car behind was coming up too fast, stopped his car and put hazards on, then leapt for the central reservation as she plowed into him.

Though that all got changed around and crap. Rather convoluted.

My brother managed to tail end someone at a round about and then later in the same day someone backended him at some traffic lights. Combination meant the car was written off.

These things happen, usually when your attention is distracted.

Hes still alive, wasnt hurt badly and doesnt care about anyone else.

got the bonnet open today and there is damage to the slam panel, big crossmember, headlight mount panels and the front bumper is nackered. the intercooler and/or hose looks like it is leaking too.

it is going into the garage to be inspected on friday.

am i within my rights to say I want everything that is damaged replaced? none of this itll straighten out stuff?
Title: ooops
Post by: Binary Shadow on September 17, 2007, 21:10:27 PM
the more you "want" replaced the more likely it is to be written off, tbh theyll probably swap anything thats damaged off anyway.. if it were me id bend out anything that would

Im putting a 30 x 12 x 5 in the boot of the 2.

Well, what used to be the boot, now its the intercooler and swirl pot storage area

Im very pleased, they have done a great job.

They only had it for 3 working days aswell, seeing the car like this has made me reconsider selling it.

didnt cost as much as i was expecting.
