Title: Powetrballs
Post by: Serious on August 28, 2007, 21:12:09 PM
My brother just bought one, had problems starting it so I tried it out. Well it said give the string some welly so I give it a good pull and the end flicked my wrist, got a nice red line and the skin at the end went off somewhere. Couple of drops of blood. Seems to work well enough though with me using it so the problem is him. Its got the lights but not the RPM display.

Certainly tensions your arm doing it, must be ideal for all the winkers out there who own one... :P

Been thinking of getting one myself. :whoops:

yeah thoughs things are awsome.
had a go on one a while ago and could only get it to 9700rpm.
theres vidios on youtube of people getting to silly speeds like 20000 rpm or somthing ridiculous like that.

We broke the stringy thing so we used the spinny thing on a dyson to get it goin lol.

I broke mine by taking it apart to see how it worked :p

Since putting it back together it is misaligned and makes an awful grinding noise when you use it :s

search ebay for Power Ball Gyro Blue Neon POWERBALL FREE BAG & STRAP

£23.94, not bad.

There are Chinese ones out there for about £7 although the quality is an unknown.

Yes I had to go for the blue one, geek level +1

They are to give yourself Popeye type forearms, might improve your biceps/triceps a but too.

Basics, its a gyroscope in a hand held plastic case with a race to allow it to turn in two planes. The string is used to start the gyroscope off, you wind it around the thing and then pull start it like a petrol lawn mower. Look closely at some of the youtube vids and you will see people using them. After this you move it as if stirring a pot of stew or something. As it gets faster the resistance against moment increases until you cant get it to go any faster.

Arrived this morning. Tried it out and got 8226rpm right arm. Left was nowhere near that so I am biasing use. TBH it seems slightly easier than my brothers to get going.

[edit] 8807 = seriously pleased :) [/edit]

[edit2] 9116 [/edit2]

Ive used mine a fair bit, highest I ever got was about 11500.  I dont need string to get mine going anymore, big relief, its a pain in the ass having to wrap god damn string around it.

I picked up a cheap version called Science Museum Strength Ball today from TK Maxx for £4.99 (with a revometer and everything).

Initial score of around 8000 but im not sure if the different makes will be directly comparable.

Doubt it, today I cant even spin the bloody thing up beyond 2.5k revs - too much pain :/

Picked one of these things up at the weekend. First go I got 9314.

Does anyone know what the 250Hz versus the 350Hz means?

The 350 is twice the weight and has a solid metallic look. Just search fleabay and you might find one.

Ah...so if I truely want to dislocate my shoulder I should get one of them...Im quite happy with my 250 Orange. Although after my proud first go I seem to have become totally mince with this thing...

Theyve got rip-off versions of these in Next for a tenner, was quite tempted at the weekend. Dont know if theyre as good as the real thing though.
