Title: Snapped My Drive Shaft
Post by: chrisdicko on May 28, 2010, 17:50:03 PM
Bit pissed off really about it. Last Sunday I had been giving it some beans, and I turned a corner and started giving it some again and something snapped. Got the car recovered and turns out it was a snapped drive shaft (drivers side front). Plus the clutch totally annihilated itself, so bought one of these

After that I think Im going to get a true 3" exhaust, new ECU and stoke the engine. That will max my turbo out, then after that get a new turbo....next year

That clutch is worth more than my car lmao

No need to stroke.

GT35 and a decent ECU, like a DTA S60 pro.

I need an engine rebuild though really if Im going to put any more power through it, so a lot of people now are using a 2.5L crank in the 2.0L block to make a 2.1L and the results they are getting are amazing (some easily over 600bhp). Although I wont be going for such big power. Ideally Id like 500/500.

Once the clutch is in, at the end of the year I will try to rebuild the engine, and maybe remap on my current ECU which is just ECUtek, then get a better ECU at the beginning of the year. I was think of the Syvecs, which is relatively new to the Impreza I think, but again has proven results. Although I will look in to the DTA S60 pro.

Turbo wise, Ive got this at the moment, http://lateralperformance.co.uk/product.php/10/18/md321t__450bhp________________________special_price_________________________, and would ideally like a rotated setup, although cost wise I dont think its worth it. Although if I did, there would be a lot more turbos to choose from which would fit!

500/500 will be useless if you daily drive though, itll need frequent rebuilds and real careful driving.

100cc over stock isnt going to make much difference tbh, you can still get over 600 on a 2 litre, there are a few here close to 700. Youre probably going to end up with big lag though.

All ECUs are more or less equal once you go over about 800 quid. Autronics has a good rep, but it doesnt have anything on a DTA, or even some of the cheaper units. The reason you get people saying one is better than another is that they are used to one type and cant translate the skill from one piece of software to another so it is automatically inferior. All can be run on any car, but again you have all the tuners who only use one type as its what theyre used to.

Yeah thats true about the mappers to be honest. There is a few people running ECUs which are never mentioned, but still are getting great power.

I dont understand about the Stokers, as I agree about 100cc isnt going to make much difference in terms of power, but the engine builders say its to do with the bigger stroke rather than displacement. They use different size rods and pistons, along with a 2.5L crank. Althought they could be talking sh*te, and just trying to sell us something!

generally, its to increase torque or to help with spinning a larger turbo.

2.2 is a popular stroke for the MR2, but the most powerful one in the UK (something like 900hp) is a 2.0.

The supposed best block is using an old Closed Deck Block from a legacy or 22B which is a 2.2L as standard, then stroke that to 2.33L. But they are as rare as hens teeth, so the next best would be a CDB 2.0L and bore that out and get 2.33 again.

The standard 2.5L blocks dont seem overly capable of running mega power, although they do run to 500bhp.
