Title: The Ashes
Post by: Edd on July 31, 2009, 13:42:03 PM
Just wondering if anyone else is following this?
i myself am eagerly following it, and it appears at time of writing (just after lunch of 2nd day third test) we have more than a good chance of having the ashes returned to us!

I think the selection so far has been alright, altho i would substitute broad for harmison/sidebottom depending on the type of pitch. I also think that the selection of bell wasnt such a great one, but we will find out whether it was or not when england bat

Im going on Monday if it pans out but this test is looking towards a draw.
The inability of the Aussies to play against swing certainly reminds of 2005.

Indeed. I was actually thinking before this happened that it would be a good idea to drop KP for a bit to put his ego in check a bit  :mutley:

Anyway, Im going to Warwickshire tomorrow! :nana:

Agree with the dropping of pietersen, he needs to be told that 1 man isnt bigger than the team, no matter how talented he is

I think I would have preffered a third opener, and drop bopara down the order. As it is Bell is technically excellent and could easily play at 3.
I also rate Prior and think he could bat further up the order too

OK, now I think we should drop Bopara and Collingwood, and get Trott in
I cant be doing with this idea that well stick to players who have earnt their right to be there.

i like collingwood but i think his form is pretty awful. I think we must be the almost polar opposite of new zealand. Theyre pretty good at the shorter form of the game, but then theyre not that good at tests

Proposed changes for the ODI/Twenty20 side:
-cook out and denly in, altho this seems to have happened already
-Shah and Morgan out, Ive no idea why the powers that be persist with players that constantly underachieve
-Trott in and also Rashid. I think rashid is a great prospect, and one of those "multi dimensional cricketers" that is suited to one day cricket. I even think hed be good in the test team. Swann and Rashid with 3 seamers, i think that would be a good bowling attack, bearing in mind swann, rashid and broad can also bat, youd have batting down to 8

And we need it as well the way the top order are batting!
