Title: The damage!
Post by: Mark on July 30, 2007, 23:40:18 PM
Well, got the sump off:

Extracted Number one piston and saw the damage after I wiped the oil off it.

I tapped the back of the piston and the bits broke off!!

Thank god I didnt drive it hard or far with the piston in that shape or I would have been looking for a new block as well !!

When I take something apart and bits fall off after I have the part in my hand  Im often left wondering how the hell it worked at all while the component was cracked/damaged.  Because sure as hell, you couldnt put the bit back in place where it was build the thing back up and expect it to work.

Very strange.

You know, I havent even thought about what its going to be like having a 500+ bhp car (That turbo will pull 600 all day long) on the road

I have a rough idea that its going to be AWESOME though !!

youd be hard pressed to get a calibra into a hedge in 6 seconds, since itll be FWD or at least FWD bias and wont even hit 60mph in that time

Well, no real updates this weekend, so heres a couple of shots of the block after I washed it. Main bearings and a few other bits and pieces arrived on Saturday

As you can see I need a new knock sensor. I managed to smash it when tipping the block over on the floor :/ Needed an uprated one anyway !

This is ridiculous. Im spending every penny I have on this damn thing.

Just put the order in for the 6 plate clutch, lightened flywheel, all the turbo mounting accessories and lines, downpipe and adapter and the injectors. I went 1000cc to allow myself to go to 600hp if I ever feel the need to spend more dough on a gearbox build. I have no doubt when I get used to the power 6 months down the line Ill be getting it stroked and bored more with hardened liners.

Its going to be awesome - thats what Ill keep telling myself...
