Title: Today..
Post by: Pete on October 27, 2006, 18:59:36 PM
...I went to the local Cruza meet, I met lots of other people nearly as pukka as me, but I was the only one running a single cog and I was also the only one who had toe-clips on my pedals. Those guys are so behind the times. I met this nice bird, she says shes sixteen but she looks youngers than that, even though she had all that make-up on.

I was worried that mentally she seemed a little too mature for me, so I told her I cant pick her up from school. I dont like being talked down to.

I misunderstood what they meant by "doing donuts" on the flyers, but I let everyone have one of mine and they stopped laughing. Tesco do 10 for a quid so I had like 50 on the passenger seat and there were loads to go around. Same with my subway sarnies.

A bloke painted flames on my front wings for free, which was nice, but Im still not sure about the purple and green... but hey, it hides the rust. It was cool til we got chased away from the carpark by the police. They stopped me because they wanted to check my details, and ask me about my Comic Sans MS numberplate but really I think they just wanted to tell their friends how they talked to someone cool like me.

I have like 7 days to produce my license and stuff at the pig station, but Ill be fine - Ive already photoshopped my dads MOT and ins. certificate and stuff. Really, I think they just wanna see my again. I think they were gay homos, but if they can sort me out with a policewoman stripper for my 17th birthday party next month Ill play along with em.

All in all it was a cool night, and I managed to pick up a seccy hand sunstrip and half a tub of polyfiller for a couple quid :)

The only question I have to ask is whether this is the style of the book/s youve worked on writing in the past?

If so, christ, its gots bestseller potential, genius.

Ta, but I only write/talk this crap when Im feeling down - my mates have worked this out and it makes me laugh when I see them realise Im about to proper lose it.

tbh tho posts like this are just experiments, Im trying to gauge reactions to this form/style without blatantly asking. Theres a saying relating to poker "play your best card last" - apparently this applies to writing but Im wondering if its always true; does the strongest part of a statement work best when it comes last?

My books are "funny" (more "silly") but at the moment Im having trouble grabbing the readers imagination because Im using such ridiculous ideas and plots. I gotta delete/heavily rework the first 10k words of my best one but its so close.

Not convinced the "Play your best card last" theory applies in all cases.

I do sort of see how it works though, if you can keep put interesting sentences together it kinda forces the reader to keep rolling through the sentences to get to the end of each one - if subconsciously.

Its interesting that theres a quite a long line of comics/dark humour writers who seem to use their writing as an outlet to the feelings they have when they are pretty much "on-the-edge", and moreover, people do seem drawn to the work of people who in danger of falling into the abyss.
