Any one done any track days in their own car before?
I did one last Friday............and it was fantastic!!
It was only at a small track, 2.2Km long, but I did a lot of laps! http://www.teessideautodrome.co.uk/
I got some new EBC Blue Stuff brake pads to test, as EBC are renound for having the crappiest pads out there, but they have reformulated all their compounds and are giving them out to test to members of car clubs. They are fantastic too. I use to run Performance Friction Z-Rated ones which are also known for being great, but I think the Blue Stuff are as good, if not better!
Unfortunately I can see my new found sport getting expensive! As Id like to do a track day every month or two, which will destroy my tyres and pads in no time. Plus the fuel costs........I used a full 60 litre tank (of V-Power) on 86 miles!!
Also I spun off the track once and smashed my splitter off  Was my own fault for not warming my tyres up properly after lunch.
The one thing Ive always wanted to do is take my micra offroading...but that was when Id had it yonks. I think Id still like to go proper offroading in my car, but only if I had a replacement lined up for free :D

You need carbonetic pads, and Kumho Ecsta V70A tyres
I always wanted to do one in my MX-5, I think if/when I get another nippy motor I would definitely consider it. Whats the actual cost of joining the track, aside from the petrol, etc?
Clockd, it was £99 for all day, open pit lane...inc lunch!
Mark, are those pads ok for the road too? Are the Kumho on the same level as R888s? I dont think I could get a pure track tyre as I do drive in the rain as well.....but I need better than my Eagle F1s GSD 3......
Those kumhos are slightly better than R888s in my experience, they last me about 1100 miles on the road.
The brake pads are fine on the road - much better than oem
OEM are dangerous on my car! But I thought the PF Z-Rated were good, and the new compound Blue Stuff are excellent too (although you cannot buy them yet). I use to hate EBC but the new owner has turned things around for sure.
Just read some reviews on the Kumhos, and they seem to be better the R888s like you said! To be honest Ive not really heard of them before. Definitely need to think about getting a set of track wheels I think.
Also my own helmet! :) Booked in for 3rd October for a drag and handling track at Elvington, York.
I was at Elvington a few weeks ago watching TOTB, and there was quite a few drives from Ireland there Mark. They did real well....think the team was called East Coast Customs I think?
I have never heard anything bad about EBC tbh, run ebc pads on my bike and they are great.
The Impreza crew hate them.....or use to. I bought some when I first got my car, and they really were terrible, but have vastly improved this year!
Im sure they are better than OEM pads for example, but for a performance pad they were crap.
Ive got a EBC red stuff on my FTO at the moment, utter rubbish when cold! Not done any track days yet, would love to at some point.
Front pads are below 40% now though, so will be getting something else next time as one day I may just forget to warm my pads up and plough into someone.
EBC pads are horrendous tbh - as chris says they are trying to drag their name out of the muck.
Their discs are especially horrific.

Yeah thats a company down in Newcastle (Our newcastle!)
Mate of mine normally runs in it in his granada - he didnt this year for some reason.
I see greensides MR2 turbo did well!

As for the discs, you confirm everything Ive ever heard. Avoid like the plague.
If you want to do track days why not join in a motoring club like the 750MC I think its www.750mc.co.uk
They have racing available for not a lot of investment at all. Not with the Subarus but many other cars to chose from.
Then you get to drive fast and have your hobby and you might win ;)
