womens av. speed for the time trial = 28mph
mens av. speed = 32 mph.
f*cking hell, thats quick...
id struggle to hit 21-22mph average... and i reckon im fairly quick.
Druggie Millar (GBR) is up for this one..
Well, I can also hit 21-24mph av on the flats over a 8 mile crit loop that I ride--but I imagine if I put my ass in the air like a real man-whore, got 150 psi tubies, a gumdrop shaped beanie, a 15# bike, and a skinsuit made from Guatemalan child-leather---Id speed up a couple miles per hour.

the womens time is bloody impressive, but the MEN? 32MPH? and its not flat, either!
Oh, its quick to be sure, and hills dont always lower average time. I have rolling ones around here that I climb standing at 15 mph, and descend at 30-35mph. Do the math.
Still, averaging 30mph w/o riding in a peloton is rather superhuman.

very good point, but, as i once found out, the ride to the bottom may well be quick and make up for the ascent, but if the ascent is a tough category climb, the subsequent flats dont seem so flat anymore... i "bonked" on the climb of a 20mile bike section of a triathlon - the hill literally snapped me in half... i was almost crying by the end.
