Number one - IT STARTED ! Got her started today, oil pressure straight away, cooling system bled and working perfect. Just ran it for 15 mins to run the camshafts in, didnt drive it as I havent put the turbo on yet.

During the week this week, Im going to mount the turbo up and measure up for my downpipe, will hopefully get that fabricated this week, along with the modification to the wastegate. Next saturday going to cut up the mount for the boot mount intercooler ( a massive 30 x 12 x 5 unit) and cut the holes through the rear firewall into the boot for the hard pipes. I have booked off 2, 5, 6 November from work to finalise and then map it.

All hoses and fittings for the turbo oil and water feeds are here and I just need to make them up, then clock the turbo so the compressor housing points the right way, and so the oil drain points straight down.

thats ginormous! wont you have problems with lag?

been looking at changing the one on the Zed but anything bigger than the standard gt15 will make lag a big issue.
a hybrid gt15 with gt17 internals on the cold side and VNT seems to be the way forward for me but not easy to fabricate.

Spool on that will be about 600-1000 rpm higher than the standard turbo, but I dont really mind - just use gears more! Will also mean I can have some sort of decent fuel economy at low revs

sounds good. esspecially the mpg thing at lower revs.

what sort of boost you gonna be running? got a rolling road booked for when its done? isnt the std turbo mr2 165bhp?

have built the engine to take the full capability of that turbo (2.3 bar or thereabouts) with 1.7 bar as low setting.

Std mr2 turbo is 250bhp (rev 3+, like mine) 0-60 in 5.2 or 220bhp 0-60 in 5.9 (Rev1, Rev2)

Im hoping for 0-100 in 8 or so seconds - seems to be par for the course on that setup.

Are you going to have a monster intercooler as well?

the entire boot will be taken up with the new intercooler

dual intercooler setups are a bit more efficient really. looks impressive

not much point having 2 intercoolers when I only have one turbo. The core I have is as big as you can possibly fir in the MR2 and pipework is still pretty short.

Should have the exhaust parts finished early this week, so it will be time to see how it all works together

This all sounds mega impressive, I cant wait to see the end result. I wish I had the talent to do similar myself, it looks like fun.
