There was problems with water supply which they are looking into, seems the ref didnt allow enough time for drinking water.

Pfft. Water.

Theyre supposed to be fit athletes.... its only a lil bit of running (now and again) for 90 mins or so.

Not exactly strenuous activity.

They would lose about 10 pounds body weight in water alone.

So they would need to drink about 2.5 to 9 litres of water during those 90 minutes.  It has nothing to do with match fitness its more about common sense unless you want to suffer the typical risks of dehydration or worse.

You can avoid cramping and dehydration by drinking about a liter per hour when doing hard physical exercise in the heat. I routinely go on epic bicycle rides of 2+ hours in 30C+ and that amount works for me. You want to drink before and afterwards as well. You could try and drink more than a liter per hour, but your body would have a  hard time absorbing it and just whiz it out. Drinking water during exercise doesnt prevent mild dehydration, it just tempers it a bit.

Deaths Head

The mexican referee that refused to allow the water bottles will not be allowed to referee any more games after the group stages because of this.  Shame.
