Quote from: CeathreamhnanWell precisely! So whats the point in no spoilers in thread titles if youre going to allow yourself to turn the tv on?    Because obviously, during the world cup, theres no other news item but, the world cup.
To avoid spoiling the result for people who havent watched it. :P

What a race.  Fantastic action all the way.  THE best race in a long time.  And the James Allen sentiments are echoed here.  I was expecting him to burst a blood vessel.  I wish someone would just do the world a favour and get rid of him.

Was there any explanation of why Brundle was not there?  Anthony did well as a commentator, although he also went a tad overboard.  I liked how Barichello tried to get some of the limelight for himself.  "Jensen, great.   Team, Great.  ME!" :)  He also had a good race.

Quote from: CeathreamhnanIt is good, but its hardly on outright merit though, is it? Ive been thinking recently that since Honda have decided to micro-manage the ex-BAR team more directly now, that they are going to go backwards. Their biggest mistake was allowing David Richards to go (because clearly hes one of these people who make a difference in any form of motorsport, and likes to run things his own way).

Fortunately, we will see David Richards back next year (or 2008) with Pro Drive.  Dave always came across in interviews as someone on the ball.

I think his only real error in recent years was to buy the TV rights to WRC from Bernie with the idea that he could make the WRC championship (which is rapidly turning into a repeat round of identical events that could practically be held on a gravel oval indoors) into a global media circus as big as F1!

Tbh JB made the best of a daft GP - but this always happens when we get a rain affected race. Didnt Johnnie Herbert win the MC GP one year in a V8 Cosworth under similar circumstances? Id like to take heart that hed win more races in the same way, but what really needs to happen is for the Hungaroring to be ditched from F1 and for him to jump into a McLaren or similar. I feel that the Hondas are destined to be mired mid-grid in the same way as Toyota, because they wont buy into the cutting edge engineering personalities (exclusively based in Britain) that populate the best F1 teams.

Two years ago I posted about Button coming 3rd in the F1 championship behind MS and KR, under Richards control of the BAR team. Last year he was ninth...

Last season was marred by a few technical gaffs, and without David Richards in charge iirc.

WRC would never become as big as F1 in my opinion.  The races are just too long.  And the coverage over here is dire.  Its relegated to an post midnight slot.  Worse than the F1 highlights programme.  What really surprises me is ITV does not do a preview show on a Thursday or Friday before the GP.  There is a lot that goes on between races but gets next to no coverage from ITV.  In places, the ITV coverage is dire.  A few races ago, Qualifying was dumped to ITV4.  It was like watching a webcast.  If F1 is such an important jewel in the ITV Sport crown, why not drop it to ITV2?  ITV2 gets 2-3 times the bandwidth that ITV4 gets.

It was still a smooth performance from Jensen in testing conditions.  And since Jensen has had so much bad luck so far this season, its only fair he has one race where everything falls into place for him.  What worried me was when Alonso was cutting the field to shreds (Alonso had a very good race, a shame the same cant be said about the mechanic that fitted that rear right wheel), there was absolutely no mention of the times Jensen was putting in.  At least, thats how it appeared in the highlights.  He was obviously moving at similar pace to Alonso because he was overtaking just as often.

Its safe to say that at almost every race so far, the tv directors have been poor.  There was a nice camera shot from the start of the race that focussed on the tyres as the race started.  Apart from that, very poor.

And oh dear

QuoteIt was a very tough race to make a Grand Prix debut but despite a couple of spins in the very slippery conditions today in Hungary, Robert Kubica brought his BMW Sauber home in a fine seventh position.

Sadly for the Pole, it has emerged this evening that post race scrutineering revealed that his car was 2 kilos under weight. The Stewards have therefore nullified his result and that promotes Felipe Massa up to seventh position with Michael Schumacher taking the final point for eighth.

Should the championship go down to the wire, this single point may prove to be very valuable to Schumacher who was classified initially in ninth, despite not finishing the race.

Fernando Alonso now leads Schumacher by ten points with five races remaining while Renault?s advantage over Ferrari is cut to seven points.

I thought he had a good race.  How did they lose 2 kilo?  Was the other BMW the same?  Thats a pretty big blunder.

But he really needs to lose the beard, hes beginning to look as old as his dad now

Quote from: NorphyKubica has been disqualified from the race. Apparently the car has been found to be 2KG underweight. According to some reports, the loss in weight is due to him staying out on intermediates and the tyres shedding a whole load of rubber during the race.

Seems silly really. Youd think theyd take that sort of thing into account.

The net result of this is that Massa has been promoted to seventh and Schumacher has been awarded eighth despite not finishing.

Well then if a certain idiot in a red car finished the race he would have been as well since those were bold when he went into the pits to retire.

soopahfly

It was stigs training on top gear that allowed this win :D

Who is Perry McCarthy???   :?

Cypher

Not a very well known driver, he was a F1 Test Driver for the Arrows team in 1991.

He only raced in 1992 for Andrea Moda.  After a very poor year and he ended up testing for Williams and Benetton in the 90s.  One of these drivers that never got a proper break.

Penguin

hm, arent most drivers comparatively unknown - outside their own country, at least?

Yes, I am ignorant.
