Zidane named best player of the World Cup! How on earth can Fifa say that after what he did in the final? That is just shocking. Fabio Cannavaro was the player of the tournament. A 510" central midfielder that proved height is not everything.
Is this what we want to celebrate as the best player of the World Cup 2006?

Or this man?

FIFA is a load of cobblers, control should be revoke because they have turned this World Cup into a complete farce.
Looks like Del Piero is auditioning to be the next Indiana Jones in the remake of Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark... I dont know where he has his bag of sand.

Hmm, that cant be Del Piero, hes the skin head on the right. Who is he?
zidane is the best player of the last decade... Materazzi was far from innocent, and at the end of the day, its player of the tournament - he deserved it...
note: the votes were (ironically) cast at half time for this award...
They should have gone back and redone it then. I disagree, I dont think Zidane has been that good this tournament. He doesnt deserve anything. He has earned a great deal of respect for what a fantastic talent he is yet he has always had this explosive side to him. If he deserved anything, it was the red card that he got. No matter the provocation he should not have done what he did.
They make a point of him serving a 1 match ban for 2 yellow cards earlier inthe tournament and they want to change that to 3 matches and a ban. Think about that for a second, there are 3 group matches at the start before yellow cards get wiped clean... then 2nd Round, Quarter Final, Semi Final and then the final so the only match you could conceivably miss is the Final itself if they choose to bring in the 3 yellow card rule. I dont think the yellow cards should be wiped clean but hey, Im obviously not Sepp Blatter.

I dont want to get into Daily Mail territory about the wrongs and rights about what zidane did, its churlish, something was said and he reacted*, hes a grown man - he lives and dies by his actions and at the end of the day his side lost the world cup final.... up to that point the assembled people thought he was the best player at the WC finals...
*we DONT know what Materazzi said, i bet it wasnt "youre having a blinding game Zizou"
P.S. the guy kissing the WC with the flag on his head is totti.
Hmm, doesnt look like Totti but Ill take your word for it :)
And they are all wrong because I didnt think he was the best player at the world cup finals. ;) Having said that, name any players that had an outstanding finals and its pretty hard going... Cannavaro, Lahm...
I watched almost every game at the World Cup, how sad is that? :(

TBH its more like hes auditioning to be a fortune teller with a crystal ball :D
Zidane was the best player of the tournament. Just cause he had a moment of madness doesnt mean he cant be the best "player".
He is the best player ever in my mind. Much better than Pele and Maradonna, even Best.

Quite believeable when the knob says things like that which ar obviously untrue
Note that it says IGNORANT and not INNOCENT! You can say something without knowing what it means!

well you know ;)
Hes lucky Zidane nutted his chest, he could have easily broken his nose.
If anyone insulted my family Id nut them.

I wonder who he is, a well known criminal suspect perhaps?

You can watch the Panorama programme from the link too ;)
The Toronto Stars piece on Zizou is spot on:
QuoteIt was inelegant. It was wrong. But it was a far sight more manly than a sneak attack or a kick in the privates. For me, watching infamous divers like Francesco Totti or Thierry Henry step up to give their post-match two cents about Zidanes "madness" was more nauseating than the attack itself.
After he hit Materazzi, Zidane quietly waited to be sent off. When his (perfectly correct) punishment came, he turned and walked away without complaint. Meanwhile, Materazzi thrashed about on the ground as if hed been beaten with a mallet, rather than knocked on the chest. I know who I thought looked more dignified.

If someone head-butted you on the chest, you wouldnt fall over anyway, unless you were a 6 stone weakling. Try it with the person next to you :P
