Title: What car...
Post by: Binary Shadow on October 07, 2010, 14:15:50 PM
Well i sold my car and am looking to replace it with something significantly cheaper.

Im out of ideas what to buy really.

looking to spend as little as possible sub £1000
Needs to be winter friendly and ideally 2000cc or less for the wallet

So far a vectra SRI 140 is all i have, or a volvo v40 1.8. Anything else i should consider?

looked at alfa 156s until i saw the parts prices for cambelt kits.. ouch! and id have to have the v6

For that sort of money i would be looking at a 1.8 16v MK4 Astra SXI or SRI, decent performance for less money, and economical enough for that price range.

Failing that goto auction and find something like i just bought Mondeo TDCI 130

an 02/03 plate MG ZS 1.8 would fit in that bracket.  Some nice examples around.  Thats if you dont mind a K-Series 1.8!

Around here mk4 astras are crazy money, id have to go hours away to get one i think.

Auctions are way too risky.

I cant see myself in an MG.

It was local. It was cheap and its certainly nasty so ticked all the boxes.

I actually rate Vectras as a motorway cruiser.  Not great round town, and a little heavy on juice, but overall not bad cars if all you want to do is get from A to B in reasonable comfort.  As a drivers car they arent much good, great load lugger though.  Ive had mine for over 4 years now, and its been solid!
