Title: What Estate?
Post by: soopahfly on May 05, 2008, 18:15:20 PM
£10k Budget,

Been looking at
Honda Accord Tourer Exec 2.2 i-CDTi (Leather, Satnav, under 60k on an 05 plate)
Audi A4 1.9 TDi (New shape), 80k and no toys.
Volvo V50 2.0D ( Leather and not much else)

What would you guys choose any why?
(sounds like something Cilla would say)

Its basically needing to be to 60 in around 10sec, not too fussed if its a touch over as Ive seen remaps for all of them.
Needs to be reliable and as much fun as you can have in an estate.

The Accord 2.2 CDTi or MG ZT-T CDTi is what I would go for.

Looked at the normal 75 estate, but felt you got more with some of the competiters.  I will look at the MG.

yeah some of the specs are abit thin, look for the Highline, PLus and Connesuire and the drivers info pack that will have (Dual Climate, Half leather/Allacantra, Rain Sens, Lights Sens, Parking Sens, Sat Nav/TV + more)

I thinking were more swaying towards the Honda tbh.
Will see when we go to carcraft to sit in their models.  Not going to buy from them mind, and if we cant get rid of the pushy salesman well tell him well buy there and then if he gives us £3k for the Cinq.

I was reading a thread on the DVD Forums like this recently, nothing but high praise for the Accord Exec, you get Honda reliability and all the toys too.

That, and for minimal effort you can get a USB or Ipod connector onto the stock HU!
Looks like the bus and the cinq may go in favour of an Accord Exec Tourer.

Ten grand estate ?

Has to be an E-class or a 5 series diesel estate.

Id go for the E class.

Your hondas or volvos arent going to last 700,000 miles - the merc estate will

id have the merc myself, but £10k on an estate seems a bit much to me.... then again i spent nearly double that on a station wagon...

Dont really need it to last 700k to be fair, but im not looking at old cars. The merc would be more for the age/mileage were looking at, that and it looks like ass. Needs to be reasonable on the juice otherwise I would be looking at cars like the S15 or Phaetons.

then spend 3k on a cheap estate, and 7 on an S15

This.  As much as i actually like my Vectra, I wouldnt ever consider buying one brand new.

For 10k you are still buying a pretty new one.  For example i can find 55 plate diesels, or 57 plate SRi spec petrols for 9k-10k.  However youll lose most of that over 3 years.  I only paid 2k for a 6.5 year old Vectra Hatchback.

Going to test drive an Accord 2.2 i-Cdti Tourer executive in about 2 hours.

60k, full Honda service history, Satnav, leather, electric hatch, Hands free etc electric seats.
Lots and Lots of toys.  It even looks like it has an air compressor under a hatch in the boot floor.

Random search....

Audi A4 1.9 TDI Quattro Sport 2002
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/485695.htm

Boat load of BMW 3 series tourings (from 330is to 320ds)
link (http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/list.asp?s=132&dist=10&pc=&min=9000&max=11000&y1=&y2=&txt=tour&px=&filter=TP&o=p&Submit=Search)
Theres a rather tasty 325i Touring with M Sport styling in there for 10k.

4 BMW 5 series tourings (from 530is to 530ds)
link (http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/list.asp?s=133&dist=10&pc=&min=9000&max=11000&y1=&y2=&txt=tour&px=&filter=TP&o=p&Submit=Search)

Only one Merc E-class on Pistonheads it seems, low mileage though?
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/473796.htm

Save the best till last;

Volvo V70s all 2003-2004 ranging from D5s to a 300bhp T5-R
link (http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/list.asp?s=454&dist=10&pc=&min=9000&max=11000&y1=&y2=&txt=&px=&filter=TP&o=p&Submit=Search)

While I think the Germans do a bang up job of an estate its hard to go against the V70, its the natural choice in my opinion. Ive drive them from time to time and always walk away thinking how nice they are.

If it was me, itd be a toss between one of the high spec BMW 3 series touring and a high spec Volvo V70.

Do like the look of the Accords, not sure about the estate, but if you need something to carry the Cinq around in the boot, suppose tis a good choice :D

Prefer the dark grey colour you see about though.

Hopefully next week, just waiting for the bank to pull their fingers out.
Who can resist the name of the Metallic black on there though..... Its "Nighthawk Black"

Got offered £200 for the cinq, I think it knows it and its falling apart very quickly!

Indication of size for you...those are 16" wheels.
