I managed 100 in a 1.4D AX. I wish I still had that car - if you know of any up for sale, let me know!
Quote from wikipedia:
"This technology came from the PSA Peugeot-Citroën / Renault / French government ECO 2000 project. In 1989 a naturally aspirated diesel AX, using the 1360 cc all aluminium alloy TUD engine, managed a figure of 2.7 L/100 km (104.6 UK MPG, 87.1 US MPG), totalling over 1000 miles from Dover to Barcelona. This was the longest ever distance travelled on 10 UK gallons of fuel and earned it a place in the Guinness Book of Records as the most economical production car."
Im currently using a 30k mile AX 1.5D for work, as I do 30k miles a year, and I get 80-85 mpg out of it, oh, and I get paid 40p a mile :) (Well, 30, after 10,000 miles) so its kind of easy on the wallet. I have been toying with the idea of getting a big car for work, but I prefer making money off the AX since I was given it for nowt.
So, Whats your mpg record?
Probably the Renault 19 1.9D.
Non-Turbo, we worked out it was pulling about 50mpg on a run. Horrible car, suspention was too soft, the engine had no grunt and it felt like driving a tractor.
renault megane 1.9dti used to regularly get near 60pmg. The MG does about 50 which as alright imo, alot quicker than the megane.
doesnt 1.5D 106, Saxo and Metro all share the same TUD engine as the AX.
the metro had a french 1.4 diesel. dont know if it was the same.
410 miles from the cheekys 35litre tank.
Need to work it out.
around 65 in my 1.8D escort van. would be more If i unloaded all of the crap out of the back.

i struggle to get 35-40 in my Escort Van 55, its does get absolutly thrashed tho, you need to just to keep up with traffic.

Yes, but the AX is lighter. The 1400 diesel was an all alloy engine, the 1.5 is iron block - so less mpg due to extra weight and capacity.
65mpg in a 1.9td xantia

bloody hell thats bad! I can be running on fumes, put £5 in it and do 55 - 60 miles before I get to paranoid to carry on.
got 650 miles from a saab 9-5 2.3t
Around 40mpg in my old Clio.
These days Im lucky to get above 20mpg I think
my yaris allegedly is averaging 36mpg since i got it but i think thats a bit ambitious.

I think the most I have managed is 420miles with just about under 10 litres to spare in a 60L tank.
Whatever it was it worked out to 38mpg. That was going to skegness and back over a weekend. Was quite pleased. Managing 35 on average these days.
Thats a 1996 1.6 Megane.
I do not know the mpg but driving through germany and denmark doing 120km/h in average speed in fully loaded car 4 persons + packing and tents and stuff my diesel passat from 96 did 100km on 6 liters, not to bad.
Bottom limit would be just under 20mpg on a 2.0L 16v Mk 2 Astra GTE. It was invariably a rather swift 20miles, but it was painful to the pocket. I want that car back :(
so it can slide you off the road into the nearest ditch with its woeful suspension ? :D

nah, was tinkered with all over. Awesome car, just a bit of an arsehole clincher if you took a corner wrong though.
The MK2 wasnt a bad car for the time.
11mpg would be the lowest sustained lol
highest 40-50 in a company diesel polo
