Just got in from the pissing rain after fixing everything that the Audi failed on its MOT.
It basically failed on EVERY front suspension component being worn and having excess movement.
Here is all the old nackered bits

NOT HAPPY!
Cost me a bomb and has been a complete pain in the arse. I fully blame the sh*t state that the roads are in around here.
gonna ring the council and complain tomorrow.
When i had my Audi, it used to knock and squeak like crazy, i was told or rather read its quite a common issue with them, but i heard that was the rear but could have been the front too.
yeah the front upper links are very common fails on them.
the car drives like brand new now though really positive handling and steering, better get the tracking done after messing around with the track rod ends.
the front CV joints are prone as well, had a passat (same front end) and the whole cv joint cage collapsed, when i took it off all the balls fell out lol

yeah that is the 2nd one Ive done on that side in my ownership (3years) but it is my fault the boot had been leaking for ages and i couldnt bothered fixing it.
What Audi have you got? The Quattro or Sport? Mine handled like a dream it was a Sport.
The roads here in Leicester are absolutely terribly sh*t too, Im sure Walrus will back me up on this wherever he is.
Ive got to get a front lower ball joint replaced on my Focus which causes a slight knock from the front when going over speed bumps etc.
To be honest the CV boot rubber cover on that photo doesnt look too bad at all?

Got my MOT on monday. Ive heard some squeaks coming from the front suspension so I hope its ok, cause I cannot afford replacing parts of it

Mine went through for 2 years with squeaks before i sold it, would have probably gone through another time.
count yourself lucky !
my iveco van.....
about a month ago, fuel pump went, bill was just sort of £1000
mot last week, needed new torsion bars and shocks on the front end.... £2500 on parts alone
and now the clutch is on the way out :-(
Could have got a new van for that :P
i know !
if it had all hit at once I would have
I thought the clutch was fine until I was trying to pull the van out of the break tester at the MOT station and a bunch of magic smoke escaped from the bonnet... and underneath... and through the air vents...
I got knocks and squeaks, and 2 years in a row MOT Pass :D
I think I need a gearbox mount and some grease on the dodgy polybushes.
It must have sounded like it was falling apart if all that was worn enough to fail an MOT there!
That wasnt at all predictable.
At least at our MOTs our cars arent fitted with bombs.

Seriously, for the most part the MOT over here is actually harder work than you seem to think. The issue comes with back street garages who also sell cars sticking MOTs on them to get them out of the door. At the moment they are clamping down on those though, at least 2 garages round me have lost their testing certificate for doing it!

you would think so but it wasnt to bad, I would get a clunk from the offside when turning left every now and again but that was it.

Ive yet to see a good one! Well actually, I have seen ONE good one - Im sure there have to be some honest ones.
Thats in 10 years of bringing maybe 25-30 cars over a year.

over the years Ive failed on some trivial sh*t. They are poking a lot of the MOT stations round here at the moment. Sending in cars with obvious fails and the like, they reaming them. The place I use has failed me on what I would consider trivial sh*t, but at least it means my cars are right when they go through. They are also the only place I know in the area who will let you walk round the car with them!
been doing abit more work on the car tonight, the rear brakes where an advisory on the MOT I think this follows the thread nicely.
The Worse Brake Discs Ever!

My car failed the MOT today. Ive got one little hole about the size of a 5p in the exhaust where the centre pipe joins the rear silencer. £350 notes the garage wants to replace it. They can f**k right off, c**ts.

Pepsi can and gun-gum time?
The rear discs on my Focus were noted on my latest MOT advisory as well and they do look simular to the ones on the photos but not as bad but people have said to me that they are still good for at least another year.

I love advisories. Last time I used a different garage than I normally do they told me I needed new shocks, springs and axle bushes. Perhaps looking at them first before deciding to try and rip me off would have been intelligent. They must not have actually put the car on the ramps, they were a couple of weeks old at most. I pointed this out and took the car after paying them the MOT price. Took it to my normal garage rather than taking it back there, and they picked out a bit of welding that needed doing. I showed the guy the advisory notice, and he went ballistic.
You should have shopped them straight to trading standards. Garages and mechanics are SCUM in general.

Guy at the MOT station took it off me, and said hed be forwarding it on.
That is why I use MOT garages that dont do any of the repairs. Nothing in it for them if it fails.

Can work the other way, I know testers who would pass a car because they didnt fancy the repairs needed, if they dont do repairs they dont care how hard the repair is, theyve not got to do it.
Those discs dont look bad imo. They are above minimum thickness, not cracked etc.
Just get them skimmed.
