Title: 360 games
Post by: Chuck Norris on May 02, 2007, 12:19:49 PM
Right, my G/F has bought a 360 and it currently lives in my house.  After much temptation I finally got round to having a blast at dead rising.  Much to my dismay I remembered just how much I hate first person/third person games on any console, mainly because I cant get used to controlling the character with analogue sticks.  So, are there any good games you could recommend that are quite good fun but dont rely on you using both analogue sticks?

i would say lego star wars 2, the game is just amazing, not sure about the using both analogue sticks thing, most games do.

Viva Pinata is amazing, if you dont mind games looking a bit kiddy

dual sticks is the default control for almost all games these days.  If you had a wii then you would have more ways out but ultimately almost every game is going to use them.

One thing to note is that dead rising has the most horrible control system Ive ever experienced in a first person game.  Trying to get him to go where you want or attack in exactly the right direction is almost impossible.  It only gets worse on a skateboard or pushing a trolley.  If you want to control a character that is probably the worst game I could recommend.

It doesnt take that long to get the hang of dual analogues but dear god dont start in a zombie filled mall, with millions of obstacles, interaction all around you and a badly designed game engine.

The games fun in a hack and slash blast (especially when you unlock his abilities to deal with bigger and bigger crowds) but its not representative of the normal standard of FPS/3rd person games.

If you want to get the hang of dual sticks then a driving game is the way to learn.  I always tried to use the D-Pad after years of growing up on SNES etc and never really made a smooth transition to the N64/PS2 by using the D-Pad whenever I could.  Just do it - once you get good with it its a much better control system. :)

Medal of honour psp demo - Worst control system ever, being owned by bots, I know I cant hold it right with my hand but still fps on psp - not a good idea, lol

We have just got past stabalisers but were stuck on shoe lace tying.

I might have to convince her to buy it, using my expert selling skills.  I played gears of war last night, and its a little frustrating but its a lot better than dead rising.
