USB is clearly clearly doing more than just providing power for it, I have this driver installed, yet windows refuses to talk? (http://www.soft32.com/Download/Free/XBOX_360_Controller_For_Windows/4-184743-1.html)
Any suggestions? Or have MS crippled this so they can flog their wireless joypad base station (http://img128.imageshack.us/img128/5525/3299826mny3.jpg)? (which from what Ive heard has rubbish drivers...)
It does nothing. Trust me. Even when its plugged into your console, its not playing in "wired mode" its still wireless.
I know that, but it must be capable of more than just supplying a vendor ID under the USB HID spec, surely?
Wireless ones just arent designed to work that way, whilst the ability is probably there they didnt think they would need to i imagine.
The whole pc connectivity was an after-thought, as they realised it was easy to with a wired one.
Base station might be worth it, if more platformy type games come out for pc
Hmmm, I dont believe you, Im going to attack it with the linux USB stack. (http://xbox.cvs.sourceforge.net/xbox-linux/kernel-2.6/drivers/usb/input/xpad.c?revision=1.32&view=markup) :P
They recently released a wireless adapter for PCs that plug into a usb socket to allow use with the wireless controller. I suspect the only reason you will see a response on the USB is to ensure full power is supplied as it can only be used to charge the battery. You cannot use the wireless controller as a wired one with the Play&Charge kit.
Update - Got it to work. (http://xbox-linux.cvs.sourceforge.net/*checkout*/xbox-linux/kernel-2.6/drivers/usb/input/xpad.c) :)
is it laggy ?
I find that my Wireless controller (to 360) becomes laggy when the charger cable is plugged in :o

Woot! Also the wired headset shows up as USB Audio Device, not tried the chatpad yet.
Can you use the xbox wireless controller in windows then? via the USB play and charge?
If so how did you manage to do it?
Yes, it would have been nice to have had something more than just "I got it working, see this pic" with no guide for anyone else to get it to work.
Release coming if I get the time.
Does anyone have any ideas for a name for the project?
Youll also need a properly set up build environment.
No interest then? No point me bothering then.
wireless wired play n pc driver kit heheh
Im interested though I dont play games on PC any more. Would be cool to see it working. No imagination for the name though.
Project "Screw you MS and your wireless PC adapter"?
I bought the wireless adapter, but TBH its sh*t. The Keys dont map correctly.
Id be interested
i am interested :P please post how to do it!!!

Its a custom written driver Ive created based in part on another defunct open-source project, and the
Linux xpad kernel module + some reverse engineering. Im still coding and testing it, but Ive been extremely busy with other projects + work.
Heres the original config GUI, Im slowly porting it to C++ from the Original Pascal/Delphi:

If I can find the time Ill set something up on Google Code, since this is all GPLv2. :)
And keep posting! No point me working on this if no-ones going to use it but me. :P
I would say as soon as it is ready to go it wouldnt take long to generate a LOT of interest. Post the info to Joystiq and Kotaku and let Digg pick it up - instant fame (and potentially a pointed email from Microsoft, though I cant see they can complain if its truly reverse engineered).
I cant believe someone hasnt already got this out considering how long the kit has been available. I think its awesome that you can do this.
nice!
just a quick question though, are the triggers on axiss ?
Is it true that I can make a PS3 controller work for PC?
