just realised that my internet disconnects when my phone rings, what does that mean?

Id think that your adsl filter isnt doin its job. New one should only be a few quid.

could a faulty filter also cause an intermittent connection?

Your problem is likely to be caused by filters, but to narrow it down do the usual checks. Assuming your connection stabilises, reverse them one by one to find out whats causing the problem:

(1) Move router to master socket
(2) Unplug everything else from the phone line
(3) Swap the filter
(4) Swap the router

cheers ill get a new one tomorrow.

feel quite bad as ive been give the tiscali staff some serious ear bashing about my connection being on off on off all day, i told them the filter would be fine :P

I did the same a while back with Bulldog. My connection had been fine for ages so I didnt suspect anything my end. Turned out to be the cheap phone extension i had bought had randomly decayed. Bulldog had me on the phone insisting nothing was wrong my end.

Hopefully your problem is as simple. Maldonados steps (1 in particular) should prove it one way or another.

Mine used to do this all the time til I replaced the filter. Buy a good one. Theres a shop that does them for about £7 and theyre good. The cheap ones are crap and aint worth saving 50p over.

I know sh*ts bad right now with all that starving bullsh*t and the dust storms and we are running out of french fries and burrito coverings.
