Take a look at that, Is there any reason why I should be experiencing frequent disconnects, and speeds less than 14.4k modem speeds?
Despite being Virgin ADSL and using a Belkin router?
Its plugged straight into the master, no other phones, even tried the test socket. I can see the exchange from my window. Were supposed to be on an 8mb connection. I have changed cables, filters and there is no newer firmware for this pos.
Just spotted this in my security log.

look slike the SNR is too low. You need to get it set a bit higher.
Cant change it on the router.
call the ISP and tell them your SNR is set to 6 during the day. They should be able to turn it up at the other end.
Likelyhood is that your SNR will fall anything up to 4dB when evening comes round, or you have bad weather etc etc. You ideally want them to set it at 12ish if they can.
Just "hack3d" my way onto the router in the flat below, they are on BT Internet and here is their stats.

Ill have to get the girl who sorted the connection to ring Virgin tonight and put them over to me.
Edit.
In fact theres so much noise on the line, I cant hear a dial tone.
I never use the phone and no-ones complained before. Its even bad in the test socket.
Need to go rob some more 4 core rj11s to test.
Ive had the house phone unplugged all day so far, and my Snr is creeping up. Its at 7.7 atm.
No internet drop outs, good speeds.
Changed the filters and I think its just a case of that phone is faulty.
even with a dodgy phone the filters should still keep it up.
odd indeed.

After this mornings BT Engineer
Yep your SNR was too low, glad you have got it sorted now but be aware of Belkin routers of how they connect your line to exchanges, when i used my Belkin router before with my ADSL (Orange) it was always connected at 8128 but i got random disconnections all the time, usually around 4 times a day and also the router would sometimes stop responding so i would have to restart it. Then i got my Netgear DG834G router and since i got it, its been fantastic, but what i noticed since i started using the Netgear is that it has never connected at 8128 and the highest it has connected to is 7000, usually it connects around 6800 (My area is 6.5MB ADSL Max) and with the Netgear i only get about 2 disconnections a week roughly now. The Netgear router must have some monitoring feature of how to look at the internet connection and how to stabilise it better rather than Belkin Routers.
LOM!
