Title: Affordable (<£250) SAS controllers?
Post by: ISJX_Ian on April 29, 2006, 14:45:55 PM
Does anyone know of any "affordable" SAS PCIe controllers?

I thought it was about time I completely overhauled my storage & would rather like a move to SAS if I can find a sensibly priced controller. Adaptec seem to make a PCI-X one at ~Ã,£250 but their cheapest PCIe controller is over Ã,£600 :(

So you want to control the SAS? Special Air Service or Scandinavian Air Service? :D

Sorry but it was a wide open goal  :whoops:

I believe he means Serial Attached SCSI as its the only thing I can think of ATM ;)

Yes, thats exactly what I mean :)

Im thinking it may be cheaper to hire the special air service to go nab me a controller from foreign lands than to buy one!

Ones I have seen cost about Ã,£650 inc VAT. TBH it isnt exactly mass market consumer technology so prices are going to remain high for the moment.

have you looked on Span ?

if anyone has them, they will, but probably not the most competitively priced.

you could always try Ebay.COM and hope you get a seller who marks down

Span were the only place I found with a decent stock of SAS drives.

THey actually have a few SAS controllers, but mostly PCI-X ones. Something tells me it isnt that noone is stocking ~Ã,£250 PCIe cards, its just that no such thing exists yet. Guess Ill wait another few months :)
